Police FC and UPDF FC meet at Kira Road Police Arena in Kamwokya on Thursday, September 10, 2026, with both sides seeking redemption after defeats in their previous Uganda Premier League matches.

Police were beaten 1-0 by newcomers Blacks Power in Hoima after beginning their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Mbarara City. UPDF, meanwhile, surrendered a lead in a 2-1 defeat to Entebbe UPPC after opening their campaign with a goalless draw against Kataka.

That leaves Police with three points from two games and UPDF with one, adding early-season significance to Thursday’s “Battle of Forces.”

Police Strengthen Squad Before UPDF Test

Police have reinforced Matia Lule’s squad at an important stage of the campaign.

Experienced forward Samuel Kayongo Ssekamatte and defender Najib Fesali have joined the Cops on three-year contracts running to 2029.

Ssekamatte arrives from NEC and brings considerable experience. His previous clubs include KCCA, Bright Stars, BUL, Arua Hill and UPDF, while he has also played outside Uganda for Red Arrows and Al Jawaish.

That familiarity with UPDF could add another dimension to Thursday’s contest.

Fesali strengthens the defence after most recently playing in India with Yangthang FC. He previously represented URA, BUL and Kyaggwe at Ssaza level.

Police have also recruited Siraje Ssentamu, goalkeeper Shukuru Hadji, Ivan Mayanja, Denis Ojara, Rogers Kiwanuka and Emmanuel Ojok Junior as Lule reshapes his squad.

Can Police Find More Goals?

Police’s opening two matches have both finished 1-0, with the Cops winning one and losing the other.

The immediate challenge is therefore improving their attacking output.

Ssekamatte gives Lule another option alongside Bedia Ikamba, Marko Teny, Charles Bbaale and Lawrence Tezikya. Ivan Mayanja and Said Kyeyune are among the other players Police can look towards for inspiration.

The hosts cannot simply assume their new signings will immediately solve the problem, however. UPDF have enough defensive organisation to make this another demanding contest.

UPDF Seek First Victory

Hussein Mbalangu’s UPDF have their own motivation.

They collected a point from their opener against Kataka but suffered disappointment against Entebbe UPPC.

UPDF led that game before the newly promoted side fought back to claim a 2-1 victory at Hamz Stadium.

That leaves Mbalangu looking for his team’s first league victory of the new season.

UPDF must particularly avoid allowing Police to dictate the match early. The longer the visitors remain organised and level, the greater the pressure could become on a Police side expected to deliver at home.

Police vs UPDF Head-to-Head

Police have enjoyed the better record in recent meetings.

Kawowo reports that across the past 14 league encounters, Police have won six, UPDF three, and five have finished level.

Recent meetings strengthen the Cops’ case. Police won both league encounters last season, beating UPDF 2-1 away in November 2025 before recording a 2-0 home victory in April 2026.

The historical advantage is useful context, but it does not guarantee Thursday’s outcome.

Players to Watch

Samuel Ssekamatte – Police: The experienced forward could make his Police debut against one of his former clubs. His movement and knowledge of domestic football provide Lule with another attacking solution.

Ivan Mayanja – Police: Kawowo identifies Mayanja among the players Police will rely on for inspiration. His contribution could be important in unlocking a disciplined UPDF defence.

Najib Fesali – Police: The defender is another potential debutant. If selected, his experience could strengthen a Police back line that has conceded only once in two league games.

UPDF’s collective defensive organisation will be equally important. Mbalangu’s side must remain compact while finding a better way to protect any advantage after losing their lead against Entebbe.

Police vs UPDF Prediction

Police have several factors working in their favour: home advantage, a stronger recent head-to-head record and fresh squad additions.

The Cops have also beaten UPDF in each of their last three recorded league meetings.

However, their limited attacking output makes a comfortable victory difficult to confidently predict.

Prediction: Police 1-0 UPDF

Betting Insights for Ugandan Supporters

For eligible supporters assessing the match, Police draw no bet provides more protection than a straight home-win selection if UPDF frustrate the hosts.

A Police or Draw (1X) double-chance market also fits their stronger head-to-head record. Those expecting another tight contest could consider Under 2.5 Goals, given Police’s opening two league matches produced only one goal each.

Other markets to assess include Police to score first, second-half most goals, both teams to score – No, and the draw at halftime. These are match assessments rather than guarantees; team selection, red cards and other match events can quickly change the outlook.

Odds can change before kick-off and during live betting. A team’s previous results, head-to-head advantage, or perceived strength never guarantees the outcome of a bet.

Gambling involves financial risk. Treat it as entertainment, set limits before betting, avoid chasing losses, and never gamble with money needed for essential expenses.

Verdict

Police have an opportunity to respond immediately to their setback against Blacks Power, and the arrival of Ssekamatte and Fesali gives Lule additional choices at both ends of the pitch. The Cops also carry the psychological advantage of a favourable recent record against UPDF.

UPDF cannot be dismissed, particularly with Mbalangu expected to organise his side for a difficult away assignment. Still, Police’s home advantage and stronger head-to-head record make them the narrow favourites in a contest likely to be decided by fine margins.
