Emmanuel Janan Okech scored the decisive goal as Blacks Power defeated Police FC 1-0 in a closely contested Uganda Premier League match at Hoima Stadium.
Okech struck five minutes after the interval to secure Blacks Power’s first victory of the 2026/27 season. The result rewarded the hosts for remaining organised through a difficult encounter and exploiting the clearest opportunity that came their way.
Police coach Matia Lule was disappointed by his team’s failure to convert its chances but maintained that the defeat would not change the club’s ambitions of competing for the Uganda Premier League title.
Police Make Encouraging Start
Police began positively and created a clear opportunity inside the opening five minutes. Scoring at that stage could have changed the direction of the match by forcing Blacks Power to take more attacking risks.
The Cops failed to capitalise, however, and their early intensity gradually declined. Lule later admitted that his players became reluctant during a crucial spell, allowing Blacks Power to establish themselves in the contest.
Blacks Power pressed aggressively during the opening exchanges but found Police’s defensive organisation difficult to overcome. Goalkeeper Shukuru Hadji made an excellent point-blank save in the 31st minute to keep the match goalless.
That intervention highlighted Hadji’s concentration and gave Police another opportunity to take control. Their attacking players could not provide a matching contribution at the opposite end.
Injuries Disrupt Blacks’ Power
The hosts were forced to adjust their plans twice during the first half.
Andrea Ogwal left the field after only nine minutes, with Nathan Oloro introduced as his replacement. Oscar Otim was then forced off through injury in the 37th minute and replaced by Elias Paul Emokori Oonyu.
Making two unplanned substitutions before halftime could easily have disrupted Blacks Power’s rhythm and structure. Instead, the replacements settled into the game and helped the hosts reach the interval without conceding.
The ability to cope with those early setbacks demonstrated the depth and resilience within the promoted side’s squad.

Okech Delivers the Decisive Moment
The breakthrough arrived in the 50th minute.
Blacks Power created an opening shortly after the restart, and Okech remained composed before placing the ball beyond Hadji. It proved to be the only goal required to separate the teams.
Police reacted by making tactical substitutions intended to strengthen the midfield and increase their attacking pressure. The Cops pushed forward during the closing stages but could not find a way through a determined Blacks Power defence.
The hosts protected their penalty area, managed the final minutes effectively and completed a valuable clean-sheet victory.

Matia Lule Identifies Police’s Problems
Lule believed the result was decided by efficiency rather than a major difference in overall performance.
Police created the first clear chance but failed to use it. According to the coach, Blacks Power produced one major opportunity and converted it, demonstrating the ruthlessness his own side lacked.
The defeat exposed two important areas for improvement. Police must maintain their intensity throughout matches and become more decisive when opportunities arrive.
Lule also acknowledged that his players committed mistakes in both attack and defence. He promised that the coaching staff would review those weaknesses before the team’s next assignment.
“We shall go back and work on our mistakes,” Lule said while describing the game as a useful lesson.
Despite the setback, he insisted that Police remain committed to staying close to the leading teams and competing for the championship. His full post-match assessment was reported by Kawowo Sports.

Tactical Lessons for Police
Police demonstrated that they can begin matches with purpose, but their performance also showed why consistency across all 90 minutes matters.
The Cops allowed their tempo to fall after the encouraging start. That gave Blacks Power time to reorganise, compete for control and build confidence.
Police also needed greater movement around the penalty area. Late pressure is more effective when players create passing angles, attack crosses and react quickly to second balls. Simply committing additional numbers forward does not guarantee clear scoring opportunities.
Defensively, the visitors were largely solid. However, one lapse immediately after halftime was enough to determine the result. Lule must ensure his team returns from the interval fully alert because opponents frequently increase their intensity during the opening minutes of the second half.
Players Who Influenced the Result
Okech was the match winner. His calm finish separated the sides and ensured Blacks Power made their decisive attacking moment count.
Hadji was Police’s strongest performer in defeat. His point-blank first-half save prevented Blacks Power from scoring earlier and kept the visitors competitive until the final whistle.
Oloro and Oonyu also played important roles. Both entered unexpectedly during the first half and helped Blacks Power maintain their structure despite losing Ogwal and Otim.

What the Result Means
Blacks Power collected their first three points of the season after two matches. Winning a close contest against an established opponent should strengthen the promoted side’s belief that they can compete effectively at this level.
Police also remained on three points from two matches. The defeat is not a serious blow to their campaign, but Lule will want an immediate response to prevent an early gap developing between his team and the leading clubs.
The Cops return to action against UPDF at the Kira Police Arena on Thursday, September 10. That home fixture presents an opportunity to correct their finishing problems and return to winning ways.

Conclusion
Blacks Power’s 1-0 victory demonstrated the importance of efficiency. Police created opportunities and applied late pressure, but Okech converted the moment that mattered.
Lule can take encouragement from parts of the performance, particularly his team’s opening spell and Hadji’s display. Nevertheless, Police must maintain their intensity and become more clinical if their championship ambitions are to remain realistic.
For Blacks Power, overcoming two early injuries and protecting a narrow advantage represented an impressive show of resilience. Their first victory provides momentum and evidence that the promoted side belongs in the Uganda Premier League.
