Mbarara City 0-0 Entebbe UPPC: Points Shared

Mbarara City and Entebbe UPPC shared the points after a competitive 0-0 Uganda Premier League draw at Rwamwanja Stadium.

Mbarara City and Entebbe UPPC settled for a goalless draw in their 2026/27 Uganda Premier League encounter at Rwamwanja Stadium on Wednesday.

Both teams created opportunities to win the contest, but poor finishing, committed defending and important goalkeeping interventions ensured neither side found the net.

Mbarara City came closest when Rogers Mugisha struck the crossbar. Entebbe UPPC goalkeeper Denis Otim and his opposite number Bashir Ssekagya also produced important saves as the points were shared in Kamwenge.

The result left Mbarara City searching for their first victory of the campaign. Entebbe UPPC, meanwhile, moved to seven points from four matches following an encouraging start to the season.

Otim Denies Aheebwa

Mbarara City made a positive start and created one of the first half’s clearest opportunities in the 20th minute.

Midfielder Tom Kakaire released Brian Aheebwa in a promising position, but Entebbe UPPC goalkeeper Otim reacted well to prevent the experienced forward from opening the scoring.

Aheebwa’s movement provided Mbarara City with an attacking outlet, while Kakaire worked hard to connect midfield with the forward line. The hosts, however, could not turn their promising approach play into a goal.

Entebbe UPPC also tried to threaten through Reich Triomphe Kokolo, Ibrahim Orit, Ambrose Kigozi and Sharifu Ssengendo.

Orit’s return to face his former club added another storyline to the fixture. Mbarara City defender Ambrose Arinda was booked for a dangerous challenge on the midfielder towards the end of the first half.

The two teams reached the interval level after an evenly contested opening 45 minutes.

Ssekagya Tested After the Break

Mbarara City goalkeeper Ssekagya, one of the club’s new signings, became increasingly important after the restart.

He was required to deal with an Entebbe UPPC free-kick in the 63rd minute as the visitors attempted to gain control of the match.

Ssekagya was called into action again during the closing stages, making another save with approximately five minutes remaining. His interventions ensured Mbarara City recorded a second successive goalless draw at their temporary home ground.

The hosts also had disciplinary concerns. Aheebwa became the second Mbarara City player to receive a yellow card when he was cautioned in the 73rd minute.

Crossbar Denies Rogers Mugisha

Mbarara City’s best chance of securing all three points fell to Mugisha.

The midfielder found space and directed an effort towards goal, but the crossbar rescued Entebbe UPPC. It was the nearest either team came to breaking the deadlock.

The miss summed up Mbarara City’s afternoon. Francis Mugerwa’s players created promising situations but lacked the decisive final touch required to turn their opportunities into goals.

Entebbe UPPC also had chances to claim a late victory, but Ssekagya and the Mbarara City defence remained composed until the final whistle.

The confirmed score and major incidents are recorded in the Mbarara City versus Entebbe UPPC match report.

Mbarara City’s Winless Start Continues

Mbarara City remain without a league victory after three matches. They have registered goalless draws against NEC and Entebbe UPPC, with their other result being an away defeat to Police.

Two clean sheets provide Mugerwa with a defensive foundation, but the Ankole Lions must improve their attacking output.

Aheebwa, Mugisha and Muhammed Kanyike offer experience and ability in the final third. Mbarara City now need to convert their promising combinations into clear chances and goals.

The club’s temporary stay at Rwamwanja has also created a different environment for players and supporters while Kakyeka Stadium remains unavailable for top-flight football.

Entebbe UPPC Continue Encouraging Start

The point took Entebbe UPPC to seven from four matches.

The Printers began their campaign with impressive victories over defending champions Vipers and UPDF before suffering a home defeat to Lugazi. Avoiding defeat in Rwamwanja therefore represented a useful response.

Abdallah Mubiru’s team again demonstrated organisation and resilience. Otim made a decisive early save, while captain George Kiryowa helped guide the defence through periods of Mbarara City pressure.

However, the visitors also missed opportunities to take maximum points. Greater composure in the attacking third will be required when they face stronger pressure in future fixtures.

What Comes Next?

The Uganda Premier League will pause for international football before returning in October.

Mbarara City are scheduled to visit newly promoted Ntugasaze on Wednesday, 7 October. That fixture offers the Ankole Lions another opportunity to secure their first victory of the season.

Entebbe UPPC return to action at home against Police on Thursday, 8 October. The Printers will hope to build on their seven-point return when they face Matia Lule’s side.

Conclusion

Mbarara City will feel they created enough opportunities to win, particularly after Mugisha struck the crossbar, but Entebbe UPPC also tested Ssekagya and earned their point.

The draw strengthens Entebbe UPPC’s respectable start while leaving Mbarara City with work to do after another match without a goal. Both teams can build on their defensive performances, but improved finishing will be essential when league action resumes.
