Brian Ssenyondo says the international break gives KCCA time to improve their finishing and rebuild after a difficult UPL start.
Brian Ssenyondo believes the international break has arrived at the right moment for KCCA following a difficult opening to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.
The Kasasiro Boys entered the break with four points from four matches after finally beating newly promoted Kataka FC. Emmanuel Anyama’s second-half finish delivered a 1-0 win at MTN Omondi Stadium and KCCA’s first goal of the campaign.
Ssenyondo will use the pause to improve finishing and rebuild confidence before competition resumes in October.
Relief After a Difficult Start
KCCA began the campaign with consecutive 2-0 defeats against NEC FC and Express FC. A goalless draw away to Kigezi Homeboyz followed, leaving the 13-time league champions with one point, no goals and growing pressure before Kataka visited Lugogo.
The victory did not completely erase concerns about the team’s start, but it gave players and coaches a foundation from which to work. Ssenyondo described both the goal and victory as “long overdue,” acknowledging how badly his squad needed a positive result.
| Match | Result |
| NEC FC vs KCCA | NEC won 2-0 |
| Express FC vs KCCA | Express won 2-0 |
| Kigezi Homeboyz vs KCCA | 0-0 draw |
| KCCA vs Kataka | KCCA won 1-0 |
After four matches, KCCA had scored once, conceded four times, and collected four points. They occupied 10th place in the 18-team table, although positions remained tightly grouped during the early stage of the season.
Ssenyondo Identifies the Main Problem
Ssenyondo argued that performances had often been better than the results suggested. His side created chances but repeatedly failed to convert them. He nevertheless recognised that football ultimately judges teams by results and that KCCA must become more decisive in the final third.
Against Kataka, Sammy Ssebaduka’s low delivery found Anyama, who converted in the 58th minute. KCCA must reproduce that combination of direct running, accurate service and penalty-area movement.
What KCCA Must Fix During the Break
Ssenyondo said the pause would allow his technical team to “reshape” and “organize” the side before returning stronger. Several areas should command attention on the training ground.
KCCA must improve their finishing, increase the speed of their build-up and strengthen the connection between midfield and attack. Quicker passing and earlier service would make them less predictable, while supporting runs from players such as Ibrahim Kasule and Anyama can prevent the forwards from becoming isolated.

Ahimbisibwe Return Changes the Attacking Picture
The break also allows KCCA to reintegrate Ivan Ahimbisibwe. The reigning Uganda Premier League Golden Boot winner has returned to Lugogo only 35 days after completing a move to Iraqi Stars League club Zakho Sports Club.
Ahimbisibwe scored 14 league goals during the 2025/26 season and offers the penalty-box presence that KCCA lacked during their opening games. His movement, physical strength, and familiarity with Ssenyondo’s methods should add a clearer focal point to the attack.
However, the striker cannot solve every problem alone. KCCA must provide reliable service and develop alternative scoring threats during the break.
International Duty Will Affect Preparations
The break will not give Ssenyondo access to every player. Defender Herbert Achai was selected for Uganda Cranes’ qualifiers against Tunisia and Libya, followed by two October friendlies with DR Congo. His call-up is positive for KCCA, but the team must manage preparation around his absence and assess his workload before the URA fixture.
URA Test Awaits After the Break
KCCA are scheduled to return to league action against URA FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on October 9. The fixture will offer an immediate measure of whether the training-ground work has produced meaningful improvement.
URA’s familiarity with KCCA and the competitive history between the clubs should create a demanding contest. Ssenyondo will want a sharper attack, improved confidence and stronger control of key moments. Another victory would build momentum; a return to wasteful finishing would revive the questions that followed the opening three games.

Why It Matters for KCCA Supporters
KCCA supporters expect their club to challenge for major honours, not merely recover from poor starts. The team’s long league-title drought has made every early setback more sensitive, while repeated changes to personnel have tested continuity.
This break therefore represents more than rest. It is an opportunity for Ssenyondo to stabilise the squad, establish an effective attacking identity and prove that the Kataka victory can become a genuine turning point rather than an isolated result.

Verdict
The international break has arrived at an ideal time for KCCA. Their first win reduced immediate pressure, while the pause gives Ssenyondo space to address finishing, attacking connections, and tactical balance.
Ahimbisibwe’s return adds proven quality, but progress must be collective. If KCCA use the break effectively and defeat URA on October 9, their troubled opening could quickly become a recoverable early-season stumble. Failure to improve in front of goal, however, would leave familiar concerns unresolved.
