Chukwuma Rewards Vipers’ First-Half Pressure
The Kawowo Sports match report describes how Vipers started strongly and thought they had scored through Farouk Miya, but Watambala was ruled offside during the build-up.
Kitara survived when Ashraf Mandela cleared near the goal line, preventing teammate Joel Sserunjogi from conceding an own goal. Princewill Tarabina later headed narrowly over.
The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute when Chukwuma rose to head past Kitara goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa. The goal gave the Venoms a deserved 1-0 advantage at half-time after they had controlled most of the opening period.

Martin Kizza Equalises for Kitara
Kitara improved after the break and levelled around the hour mark. Former Vipers player Martin Kizza reacted quickest after goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba spilled Gaddafi Wahab’s effort and converted the rebound.
The equaliser gave the Uganda Cup holders hope, but Vipers retained their structure and attacking ambition.
Watambala restored the lead in the 68th minute after Marvin Youngman found him in space. The Venoms continued searching for another goal.
Gusto Mulongo Secures the Trophy
Mulongo made the result safe in the 78th minute by meeting Miya’s delivery with a powerful header. Vipers then controlled the remaining minutes.
The Sports Nation Uganda report confirmed the three Vipers scorers and identified Kizza as Kitara’s scorer.
The victory gave Vipers their second FUFA Super Cup after their 2015 success. It also delivered Dennis Lavagne’s first trophy since becoming head coach in July.
What Decided the FUFA Super Cup
Vipers’ response to Kitara’s equaliser proved decisive. They regained the lead within minutes, preventing their opponents from building momentum.
Miya’s delivery, Youngman’s creativity and Vipers’ aerial strength caused repeated problems. Chukwuma and Mulongo scored headers, while Watambala’s movement produced the second goal.
Kitara showed determination after half-time but struggled to sustain pressure. Defensive lapses and Vipers’ efficiency in key moments ultimately separated the teams.

What the Result Means
The trophy encourages Vipers after their CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign ended in the group stage. They now prepare for their league title defence and CAF Champions League qualifiers with renewed confidence.
Kitara must respond after also losing to KCCA in the FUFA Super 8 semifinals. Their defensive weaknesses require attention before the league and CAF Confederation Cup.
Verdict
Vipers were not flawless, but their reaction after conceding demonstrated composure and a winning mentality. Three different scorers, effective set-piece delivery and greater control during decisive moments carried them to the trophy.
For Kitara, the defeat provides a clear warning rather than a verdict on their season. Both clubs face demanding domestic and continental schedules, and the Super Cup offered useful evidence of the areas requiring improvement. Vipers leave Nakivubo with silverware and momentum; Kitara leave with lessons they must apply quickly.
