Tanzania’s Perfect Route to the Final
Tanzania have enjoyed a commanding tournament on home soil. The Ngorongoro Heroes topped Group A after winning both matches, scoring seven goals and conceding none.
They began with a 3-0 victory over Rwanda before defeating Ethiopia 4-0. Bashiri Salum Kibaila scored twice against Ethiopia, while Juma Sagwe added another brace.
That perfect group-stage record set up a semi-final against Burundi, who had also won their first two matches without conceding.
Tanzania quickly took control of the contest. Juma Abushiri scored directly from a corner in the 10th minute before Faraji Kayanda doubled the lead in the 33rd.
Burundi could not find a response after the interval, allowing Tanzania to complete a 2-0 victory and record a third consecutive clean sheet.
The hosts therefore enter the final with nine goals scored, and none conceded. Their ability to begin matches strongly has allowed them to control the tempo and force opponents to take risks.

Sudan Recover From Uganda Setback
Sudan’s road to the final has been less straightforward. They began their Group B campaign with a 3-0 victory over Djibouti before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Uganda Hippos.
Amour Munogera’s goal gave Uganda the group victory and left Sudan relying on their record as the tournament’s best second-placed team to advance.
The semi-final offered Sudan an immediate opportunity for revenge against Uganda. Richard Okello put the Hippos ahead in the seventh minute, but Rudwan Yahya Mohamed restored parity.
Captain Waheed Shandi then gave Sudan the lead after the break. Derrick Ssozi equalised for Uganda in the 66th minute, only for Mazin Fadul Albahli Taowr to score the decisive goal eight minutes from time.
The 3-2 victory demonstrated Sudan’s resilience. They responded after falling behind, survived Uganda’s equaliser and found another goal when the semi-final appeared to be moving towards extra time.
Contrasting Strengths Set Up Intriguing Final
Tanzania’s progress has been built on defensive stability and efficient attacking football. They have not conceded in three matches and have rarely allowed opponents sustained pressure around their penalty area.
Sudan have shown greater vulnerability, conceding three goals across their matches against Uganda. However, their recovery in the semi-final demonstrated character and attacking variety.
The final may therefore be shaped by whether Sudan can become the first team to break through Tanzania’s defence.
If the hosts score first, they have already shown the organisation needed to protect a lead. Sudan must avoid allowing Tanzania to dictate possession and settle into their preferred rhythm.
Tanzania, meanwhile, must prepare for a Sudan side that remained composed after twice facing difficult moments against Uganda.

Players to Watch
Bashiri Salum Kibaila
Kibaila’s two goals against Ethiopia underlined his ability to attack dangerous positions. His movement could stretch Sudan’s defence and create space for Tanzania’s other forwards.
Juma Sagwe
The powerful forward also scored twice in the group-stage victory over Ethiopia. His physical presence and finishing make him a major threat inside the penalty area.
Juma Abushiri
Abushiri gave Tanzania the perfect semi-final start with a goal directly from a corner. His delivery from set pieces could again prove important in the final.
Waheed Shandi
Sudan’s captain provides leadership and an attacking contribution from midfield. His semi-final goal helped change the direction of the contest against Uganda.
Mazin Fadul Albahli Taowr
Taowr scored the late winner that secured Sudan’s place in the final. Tanzania must track his movement closely, particularly when Sudan attack quickly.
What Tanzania Must Do
The hosts should continue building from their defensive organisation. Their midfield must restrict Sudan’s passing options and prevent Shandi from moving into advanced areas.
Tanzania can also use the width of the pitch to stretch Sudan’s defence. Early crosses and quick switches of play may create opportunities for Kibaila and Sagwe.
The home support could give Tanzania additional energy, but the players must remain patient if an early goal does not arrive.
What Sudan Must Do
Sudan cannot afford another slow start. Falling behind against Tanzania would be more dangerous than it was against Uganda because the hosts have yet to concede.
They must protect the central areas, compete strongly for second balls and avoid unnecessary fouls near the penalty area.
Sudan’s confidence should come from their semi-final response. They showed that they can score under pressure and remain dangerous late in matches.

Why the Final Matters to Uganda
Ugandan supporters will watch the final knowing that the Hippos defeated Sudan during the group stage before losing the semi-final rematch.
Sudan’s appearance in the final illustrates how costly Uganda’s defensive lapses were. The Hippos led early and later equalised, but could not manage the decisive stages of the contest.
The match also gives Uganda’s technical team another opportunity to assess the standard required at regional level. Tanzania’s defensive consistency and Sudan’s resilience offer lessons for the development of Uganda’s next U20 group.
Tanzania vs Sudan Prediction
Tanzania enter the final with home advantage, a perfect winning record and three consecutive clean sheets. Sudan have demonstrated resilience but have also appeared more open defensively.
The hosts’ balance, set-piece threat and familiarity with Uhuru Stadium give them a narrow advantage.
Prediction: Tanzania U20 2-1 Sudan U20.

What to take Home
Tanzania and Sudan have already earned their places at the 2027 AFCON U20 finals, but the CECAFA trophy remains a significant prize.
The hosts will seek to complete a flawless campaign without conceding, while Sudan aim to crown an impressive recovery after their group-stage defeat to Uganda.
Tanzania appear better balanced, but Sudan’s semi-final comeback means the final should not be treated as a foregone conclusion. Regional gold will belong to the team that manages the occasion, protects key areas and converts its biggest opportunities.
