SC Villa defeated Kigezi HomeBoyz 3-0 at Wankulukuku as Patrick Kakande, Aslam Ssemakula and Andrew Otim secured a third straight UPL win
SC Villa continued their impressive start to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kigezi HomeBoyz at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Patrick Kakande opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 15th minute before Aslam Ssemakula doubled the advantage only three minutes later. Substitute Andrew Otim completed the result with a powerful header during the closing stages, sealing a third consecutive league victory for the Jogoos.
The win moved Villa to third with 10 points from four matches. Kigezi remained 15th with one point from three games.
Patrick Kakande Converts Early Penalty
Villa approached the fixture with confidence after successive victories over URA and city rivals Express. Their early pressure brought a reward when Kigezi goalkeeper Norman Angufidru mistimed his attempt to collect the ball and collided with Kakande inside the penalty area.
Kakande remained composed and converted the 15th-minute penalty, putting Villa 1-0 ahead and forcing Kigezi to chase the game.
The opener reflected Villa’s positive approach. The Jogoos moved purposefully, committed players forward and placed Kigezi’s defence under sustained pressure.

Aslam Ssemakula Doubles Villa’s Advantage
Kigezi had barely recovered when Villa struck again. In the 18th minute, Aslam Ssemakula capitalised on static defending and fired an excellent finish beyond Angufidru to make the score 2-0.
The two goals gave Villa firm control and exposed Kigezi’s defensive concentration. The hosts were quicker to loose balls, sharper in possession and more decisive around the penalty area.
John Asiimwe could have added a third in the 37th minute but sent his close-range attempt over the crossbar. Kigezi nevertheless faced a difficult recovery.
Kigezi Improve but Lack Final-Third Quality
Kigezi HomeBoyz returned after halftime with greater ambition. They committed more players forward and attempted to reduce the deficit, but their improved intent was not matched by precision near Villa’s goal.
The promoted side struggled to turn possession into opportunities. Passes went astray in important areas, leaving Villa comfortable even during Kigezi’s better spells.
The response showed urgency, but top-flight survival demands more than effort. Kigezi must make better attacking decisions and eliminate costly defensive mistakes.
Andrew Otim Seals the Victory
Villa continued creating chances as Kigezi pushed forward. Substitute Andrew Otim almost made an immediate impact in the 67th minute when Kakande supplied him, but his shot travelled narrowly wide.
Asiimwe missed another clear chance eight minutes later, but Otim eventually delivered the finishing touch.
With 10 minutes remaining, new signing Brian Mato sent a precise corner into a crowded penalty area. Otim rose above the defenders and headed home to make it 3-0, removing any remaining doubt about the outcome.
It was Otim’s second goal of the season after also scoring against Express. Mato’s debut assist provided another encouraging sign for Villa’s attack.

SC Villa Build Strong Early Momentum
Villa opened their season with a draw against Kitara before defeating URA, Express and Kigezi HomeBoyz in succession. Ten points from four games represent a strong start and place them within reach of the early leaders.
The result also strengthened belief among Villa supporters that the squad can compete consistently against different opponents while maintaining the intensity, discipline and finishing required to collect points throughout a demanding domestic league campaign over the coming months.
Three different scorers contributed at Wankulukuku. Kakande showed composure, Ssemakula punished weak defending, and Otim made an impact from the bench, reducing dependence on one attacker.
Villa also protected another clean sheet. Maintaining the balance between attacking intent and defensive organisation will be crucial to remaining in the title conversation.
Kigezi HomeBoyz Face an Early Test
Kigezi have collected one point from their opening three completed fixtures. They lost to Lugazi, drew 0-0 with KCCA and were convincingly beaten by Villa, while their scheduled meeting with champions Vipers was postponed.
The newcomers have a game in hand, but their position demonstrates the challenge ahead. Early defensive errors gave Villa an advantage that proved impossible to overturn.
Kigezi must respond by becoming more disciplined without losing the second-half ambition shown at Wankulukuku. Greater sharpness in the final third will also be essential if they are to convert competitive periods into goals and points.

Verdict
SC Villa’s 3-0 victory was a controlled and convincing performance. Two early goals allowed the Jogoos to dictate the contest, while Otim’s late header gave the scoreline an accurate reflection of their superiority.
Kakande, Ssemakula and Otim shared the goals, Mato contributed on debut, and the defence protected a clean sheet. Villa now have three consecutive wins and genuine early-season momentum.
Kigezi showed more ambition after halftime but lacked the quality required to change the game. Their survival prospects will depend on correcting defensive mistakes and becoming more clinical. Villa, however, leave Wankulukuku looking increasingly capable of challenging near the top of the Uganda Premier League.
