Real Madrid will attempt to maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 La Liga season when they visit Real Betis at Estadio La Cartuja on Friday night.

José Mourinho’s side have won their opening three matches, scored 10 goals and collected nine points. Betis occupy seventh place with six points after two victories and one defeat.

Real Madrid begin the fourth matchday level on points with leaders Barcelona. Victory in Seville would temporarily move Los Blancos three points clear and strengthen the positive momentum created at the beginning of Mourinho’s second spell.

The contest begins at 9:00pm Central European Summer Time, which is 10:00pm in Uganda. The official Real Madrid match preview identifies the encounter as one of the club’s most demanding assignments so far.

Real Betis Looking for a Reaction

Betis began the campaign impressively, recording consecutive 1-0 victories over Real Sociedad and Valencia. Those disciplined displays were followed by a surprising 5-2 defeat away to Levante.

Marc Bartra and Rodrigo Riquelme scored as Betis twice responded after falling behind, but Pellegrini’s team eventually lost control. The result exposed defensive weaknesses that could prove costly against Real Madrid’s powerful attack.

Pellegrini, now in his seventh consecutive season with Betis, is expected to make changes. Diego Llorente, Pablo Fornals and Cucho Hernández are among the players pushing for starting positions.

The hosts can still draw confidence from their record at La Cartuja. They defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 in their only home match this season and have avoided defeat in their last four home encounters with Real Madrid.

Betis will also begin their first Champions League Campaign in 21 years against Lille next week. Pellegrini must therefore balance the excitement surrounding their European return with the immediate challenge of stopping an in-form Madrid side.

Real Madrid’s Perfect Start

Mourinho began his second spell at Real Madrid with a difficult 2-1 victory away to Espanyol. Los Blancos then defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 before recording another four-goal performance against newly promoted Málaga.

Kylian Mbappé has scored four times across Madrid’s last two matches and recently registered his 60th La Liga goal. Jude Bellingham has contributed two goals and played a part in three others, including the decisive header in Madrid’s victory over Málaga.

Those numbers demonstrate the variety within Mourinho’s attack. Madrid can threaten through Mbappé’s movement, Vinícius Júnior’s direct running, Arda Güler’s creativity and Bellingham’s late arrivals into the penalty area.

Friday’s match also begins a demanding September schedule. Madrid host Inter Milan in their Champions League opener before facing Rayo Vallecano, Elche and Atlético Madrid.

Team News and Predicted Lineups

Betis are expected to be without Diego Conde, Aitor Ruibal and Giovani Lo Celso through injury. Dani Ceballos has returned to the club on a free transfer from Real Madrid, but a lack of match fitness could prevent him from immediately facing his former team.

Possible Real Betis XI: Valles; Bellerín, Diego Llorente, Natan, Fran García; Facundo, Fornals; Antony, Isco, Riquelme; Cucho Hernández.

Real Madrid’s confirmed 23-player squad does not include Raúl Asencio, Ferland Mendy, Thiago Pitarch, Rodrygo, Éder Militão, Aurélien Tchouaméni or Endrick.

Mourinho may recall Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva and Güler after rotating his starting team against Málaga.

Possible Real Madrid XI: Courtois; Dumfries, Konaté, Huijsen, Cucurella; Bernardo Silva, Valverde; Güler, Bellingham, Vinícius; Mbappé.

Betis are unbeaten in their last four home meetings with Real Madrid. The most recent encounter at La Cartuja finished 1-1 in April 2026 after Héctor Bellerín scored a stoppage-time equaliser.

Real Madrid’s last away victory against Betis was a 1-0 success in August 2021. Mourinho’s team must therefore overcome a difficult recent record despite entering Friday’s contest as favourites.

Players to Watch

Mbappé is Madrid’s most obvious threat. His pace can punish Betis if their defensive line advances too far, while his finishing form makes every opportunity dangerous.

Bellingham’s battle with Isco could shape the midfield contest. Isco provides Betis with creativity between the lines, while Bellingham combines technical quality with strength, pressing and intelligent movement into attacking positions.

Antony and Riquelme must exploit the space behind Madrid’s adventurous full-backs. Betis are unlikely to dominate possession, making efficiency during counterattacks essential.

Prediction and Betting Insight

Betis have the technical quality and home record to trouble Madrid, but conceding five goals against Levante represents a major warning before facing one of La Liga’s strongest attacks.

A Real Madrid victory is the leading match-result prediction. Over 2.5 total goals and both teams to score are other possible markets, although Betis’ two clean sheets show that the hosts can be defensively organised.

Prediction: Real Betis 1-3 Real Madrid.

End Note

For Real Madrid supporters in Kampala, Jinja, Gulu, Mbarara and across Uganda, the 10:00pm kickoff offers an opportunity to watch Mourinho’s developing team face its toughest away test of the campaign.

Betis’ recent home record against Madrid means this should not be considered a routine assignment. However, with Mbappé and Bellingham in excellent form, Los Blancos possess the attacking quality required to preserve their perfect start.
