Kitara Establish Early Control

Kitara entered the contest holding a one-goal advantage but showed no intention of merely protecting it. The hosts attacked immediately and won their first corner inside five minutes.

Living Kabon’s dangerous inswinging delivery beat the goalkeeper and struck the crossbar, providing an early warning to the Somali visitors. Kitara forced another corner less than a minute later after goalkeeper Yusuf Yusuf mishandled a long pass from Henry Musisi.

Mogadishu City produced their first threatening moment in the eighth minute. Bertrand Bangura struck a free-kick from approximately 30 yards, forcing Kitara goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa into action.

The Royals continued forcing corners and keeping their opponents under pressure. Their dominance eventually produced the opening goal shortly before the half-hour mark.

Kalema Continues Continental Scoring Form

Kabon released Kalema into space on the left, and the forward directed a low finish across goal to give Kitara the lead in the 29th minute.

The goal further strengthened the hosts’ aggregate position and continued Kalema’s outstanding contribution to the tie. He had scored both Kitara goals during their 2-1 first-leg victory.

Gadafi Wahabu soon tested Yusuf as the Royals pushed for another. Naby Bangoura later missed the target for Mogadishu City, but Kitara continued creating the clearer openings.

Kalema came close to completing another brace when his effort struck the post. Kitara therefore entered the interval leading 1-0 on the day and 3-1 on aggregate.

Tumwesigye Seals Qualification

The visitors briefly threatened through their captain, Ibrahima Bangura, whose dangerous free-kick was headed away by Juuko for a corner around the hour mark.

Two minutes later, Kitara ended any realistic hope of a comeback. Tumwesigye found space inside the area and converted to make the score 2-0, extending the aggregate advantage to three goals.

Kitara managed the closing stages calmly and celebrated qualification at the final whistle.

Kalema Emerges as Tie’s Key Player

Kalema’s three goals across the two matches made him the outstanding individual contributor. His first-leg brace gave Kitara control of the contest, while his return-leg opener removed much of Mogadishu City’s remaining belief.

His movement on the left and ability to attack space complemented Kabon’s creativity. Although Kalema also struck the post, his finishing across the tie was decisive.

What Kitara Did Well

Kitara combined attacking intent with disciplined game management. They refused to defend their first-leg advantage passively and instead used early pressure to push Mogadishu City backwards.

Mutakubwa and Juuko dealt with Mogadishu City’s best attacks throughout, while the midfield controlled important second balls. That defensive concentration ensured Kitara’s forward work was protected by a clean sheet.

Al Ahly Present a Much Greater Test

Kitara’s reward is a second preliminary-round tie against Al Ahly. The Egyptian club’s continental history, squad depth and experience will make the October assignment considerably harder.

The next-round first legs are scheduled for October 16-18, with the returns following from October 23-25. Final dates and venues should be confirmed by the clubs and CAF.

Kitara are expected to host the opening leg before travelling to Cairo. They must maximise home advantage, remain organised without possession and take their opportunities more ruthlessly against elite opposition.

Kalema’s form offers encouragement, while Tumwesigye, Kabon, Wahabu and Kaddu give Lutalo different attacking options. However, eliminating Al Ahly will demand two disciplined performances rather than isolated moments of quality.

A Significant Result for Ugandan Football

Kitara’s progression gives supporters in Hoima and across Uganda another continental occasion to anticipate. The Royals are appearing in the Confederation Cup for only the second time after their debut during the 2024/25 campaign.

Facing one of Africa’s most recognised clubs will bring attention, pressure and valuable experience. It also offers Kitara an opportunity to demonstrate the development of Ugandan club football on a larger stage.

Conclusion

Kitara deserved their 4-1 aggregate victory after controlling both legs and converting decisive opportunities. Kalema again supplied the breakthrough before Tumwesigye completed the job. The Royals can celebrate an important continental success, but their attention must quickly turn towards the significantly greater challenge presented by Al Ahly.
