URA host SC Villa at Nakivubo on September 4. Read the UPL match preview, team form, head-to-head record, key players and prediction.

URA FC will attempt to end SC Villa’s recent dominance of their rivalry when the two clubs meet in the Uganda Premier League at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Friday evening.

The Tax Collectors began the 2026/27 season with a dramatic comeback victory over Maroons. SC Villa, meanwhile, surrendered a late lead to draw 1-1 with Kitara at Wankulukuku.

URA can maintain their perfect start by winning under the Nakivubo floodlights, but they face a Villa side that has not lost any of the previous eight meetings between the clubs.

URA Target Consecutive Victories

URA started Jimmy Kintu Mwera’s reign with a hard earned 2-1 victory over Maroons at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The Tax Collectors fell behind when Darius Ojok scored for Maroons in the 35th minute. They improved considerably during the second half and eventually equalised through Dissan Galiwango in the 80th minute.

Abraham Tusubira then converted an added-time penalty after Nelson Ssenkatuka was fouled inside the area, completing an impressive comeback.

URA midfielder Joshua Lubwama believes that result demonstrated the team’s improved mentality.

“We have prepared well and, playing at home, we need maximum points and we shall go for that,” Lubwama said ahead of the Villa match.

“The technical staff has prepared us well, and that showed in the comeback win against Maroons as we showed great mentality.”

Another victory would move URA onto six points and provide further evidence that the Tax Collectors can improve on recent seasons of underachievement.

SC Villa Seeking a Complete Performance

SC Villa opened their campaign with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Kitara at Wankulukuku.

Andrew Okumu gave the Jogoos an eighth-minute lead after heading home Arnold Odong’s knockdown from a free kick. Villa controlled much of the first half but failed to convert further opportunities.

Reagan Mpande missed an important second-half chance after being released by Patrick Kakande, while substitute Andrew Otim also fired over from another Kakande delivery.

Those misses proved costly when substitute Crispus Asiki headed Kitara’s equaliser with the final action of the match.

Villa demonstrated creativity and attacking promise, particularly through Kakande, but their inability to score a second goal prevented them from collecting all three points.

The record Uganda Premier League champions must be more clinical against a URA team that showed against Maroons that it can remain competitive until the final whistle.

URA vs SC Villa Head-to-Head Record

SC Villa have controlled this fixture in recent seasons.

URA’s last victory over the Jogoos came on the final day of the 2022/23 season. The Tax Collectors won 1-0, denying Villa the league championship before the Jogoos eventually secured their record-extending title the following season.

Since that defeat, Villa have gone eight matches unbeaten against URA in all competitions, recording four victories and four draws.

Four of the previous five meetings hosted by URA have ended level. Villa won the other match, securing a 2-0 Uganda Cup victory at Nakivubo last season.

The record indicates that URA have regularly made the contest competitive but have struggled to find the decisive goal needed to defeat Villa.

URA Players to Watch

Moses Waiswa will be central to URA’s attempts to control possession and create opportunities. His delivery helped produce Galiwango’s equaliser against Maroons.

Lubwama offers energy and composure in midfield, while Abraham Tusubira enters the contest with confidence after converting the winning penalty in the opening match.

Nelson Ssenkatuka will lead the attacking line and must occupy Villa captain Arnold Odong and his defensive partners. Abraham Tusubira, Marvin Nyanzi and Isma Mugulusi provide additional creativity around the penalty area.

SC Villa Players to Watch

Patrick Kakande was Villa’s most influential attacking player against Kitara. His movement and passing created several openings that his teammates failed to finish.

Frank Ssebuufu provides a physical presence in attack, while Reagan Mpande will be determined to respond after missing an opportunity to extend Villa’s lead in their opening match.

At the opposite end, new captain Arnold Odong must organise the Jogoos’ defence against Ssenkatuka and URA’s midfield runners.

Key Battle: Waiswa Against Villa’s Midfield

The match could be determined by whether Villa can restrict Moses Waiswa’s influence.

URA will look to Waiswa to dictate their passing, deliver set pieces and connect midfield with Ssenkatuka. If he receives time on the ball, the Tax Collectors should create chances.

Villa must apply pressure without leaving spaces for Lubwama and Tusubira to exploit. Their ability to manage this midfield battle could determine whether URA control the contest or are forced into a more direct approach.

Betting Insights for Ugandan Supporters

The head-to-head record suggests another closely contested match. Four of the previous five URA-hosted meetings ended level, while neither side kept a clean sheet in its opening league fixture.

A draw is therefore a reasonable result to consider, although URA’s comeback against Maroons demonstrates that they carry a threat at home.

The under 3.5 goals market may also interest supporters because recent meetings have generally been competitive rather than high-scoring. Both teams to score is another possible angle based on their opening performances, but improved defending from either side could change that pattern.

No betting market is guaranteed. Team selections, injuries, refereeing decisions and individual errors can alter the match.

URA vs SC Villa Prediction

URA possess enough midfield quality to trouble Villa and will be encouraged by their comeback victory over Maroons.

However, Villa’s eight-match unbeaten sequence in this fixture cannot be ignored. The Jogoos created enough opportunities to defeat Kitara and could secure a positive result if they improve their finishing.

A tight contest with chances at both ends appears likely.

Prediction: URA 1-1 SC Villa

Possible markets: Draw, under 3.5 total goals and both teams to score.

Verdict

URA have momentum, home advantage and the confidence generated by their late victory over Maroons. SC Villa, however, possess a strong recent record in this fixture and enough attacking quality to punish defensive mistakes.

The Tax Collectors must take their chances if they are to end Villa’s eight-match unbeaten run against them. Villa must improve their finishing and remain concentrated until the final whistle after surrendering their lead against Kitara.

With both clubs capable of controlling periods of the match but still showing early-season weaknesses, a closely fought draw is the most balanced prediction. The latest team information and historical record were reported by Kawowo Sports.
