Blacks Power 0-4 Vipers: Mulongo Brace Inspires Venoms

Gusto Mulongo scored twice as Vipers beat Blacks Power 4-0 at Hoima City Stadium, with Usama Arafat and Milton Karisa also scoring.

Vipers SC produced their most convincing Uganda Premier League performance of the season, defeating Blacks Power 4-0 at Hoima City Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Gusto Mulongo scored twice before half-time, Usama Arafat added a composed low finish, and substitute Milton Karisa completed the rout with a late header. The champions combined ruthless finishing with a clean sheet to collect three points from their first appearance at the Hoima venue.

The official Vipers SC match updates confirmed the full-time result and described the occasion as the club’s first game at Hoima City Stadium. Supporters could also follow the fixture through the Sofascore match centre, which listed it as a fifth-round league contest.

Mulongo delivers an early breakthrough

Vipers entered needing momentum after an uneven beginning to their title defence. Blacks Power, meanwhile, had collected nine points from their opening four matches and carried the confidence of a promoted side that had already shown organisation and resilience.

That confidence was tested in the 12th minute when Mulongo opened the scoring. The goal helped Vipers settle and forced Blacks Power to take greater risks.

His contribution continued a productive start to the domestic campaign. Mulongo had also scored when Vipers defeated Kitara in the Super Cup, a performance covered in Bangbet Uganda’s report on the Venoms’ 2026 FUFA Super Cup triumph.

Arafat and Mulongo settle the contest before half-time

Vipers doubled their advantage in the 29th minute through Arafat. The attacking midfielder kept his finish low and clean, giving the visitors a 2-0 cushion and leaving Blacks Power with a steep recovery mission.

The third goal arrived shortly before the interval. Mulongo struck again in the 44th minute to complete his brace and send Vipers into the dressing room with a commanding 3-0 lead.

For Mulongo, the brace underlined his growing importance under coach Denis Lavagne. His goals, pace and willingness to lead the press gave Vipers a focal point. The striker has moved from being a promising option to a player capable of deciding league matches early.

Bangbet Uganda previously examined Lavagne’s demand for higher standards after the 3-0 victory over Ntugasaze. This performance supplied a stronger response because Vipers were clinical away from Kitende and controlled the result after creating their advantage.

Karisa completes the Hoima rout

Blacks Power attempted to respond after the break and created enough openings to test the Vipers defence. Match statistics reported 11 attempts for the hosts and seven on target, but the champions protected their clean sheet through disciplined recovery work and dependable goalkeeping.

Vipers remained dangerous when space appeared. Lavagne introduced Karisa for Mulongo in the 74th minute, replacing the match’s outstanding attacker with an experienced forward capable of maintaining intensity.

The substitution produced a goal. Ashraf Mandela delivered a precise cross into the penalty area, and Karisa guided his header into the bottom corner to make it 4-0. Vipers later replaced Arafat with Yunus Sentamu in the 81st minute before seeing out the closing stages.

What the result means for both clubs

Vipers move to six points from three league matches and improve their goal difference significantly. Games in hand remain important, but the champions must use them effectively if they are to close the gap on the early leaders.

The victory also demonstrated a more efficient attacking balance. Mulongo supplied central threat, Arafat contributed from behind him, Mandela created from wide areas, and Karisa made an immediate impact as a substitute.

Blacks Power remain on nine points after five matches. Their strong opening has not been erased, but consecutive defeats against BUL and Vipers show the demanding adjustment required in the top flight. Simon Mugerwa’s team must improve defensive spacing without losing the ambition that produced three early victories.

Conclusion

Vipers’ 4-0 victory combined early authority, clinical finishing and defensive concentration. Mulongo set the tone and completed his brace before half-time, Arafat added composure, and Karisa ensured the final score reflected the visitors’ attacking superiority.

For Lavagne, the challenge is to turn one dominant away performance into sustained league form. For Blacks Power, the heavy defeat demands correction, but their earlier results provide a foundation for recovery. Hoima belonged to the Venoms, who left with four goals, a clean sheet, and renewed belief in their title defence.
