Blacks Power sign experienced defender Bashir Asiku from Calvary FC ahead of their return to the Uganda Premier League for the 2026/27 season.
Blacks Power have confirmed the acquisition of Bashir Asiku as preparations intensify for their return to Uganda’s top flight. The defender joins the Lira-based club after representing Calvary, bringing domestic and continental experience to a newly promoted squad.
The signing was reported by both Sports Nation Uganda and Kawowo Sports. His arrival gives new head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa another option as Blacks Power attempt to compete and survive.
Blacks Power Add Experience to Their Defence
Asiku is primarily recognised as a right-back, although he can operate across the defensive line. His positioning, physical strength and familiarity with Ugandan football should help a side preparing for the faster pace and attacking quality of the Premier League.
Blacks Power earned promotion after finishing as 2025/26 FUFA Big League champions with 55 points. They were joined in the top flight by Ntugasaze, Kataka and Kigezi Home Boyz following an expanded promotion race.
For promoted teams, defensive organisation can determine whether early optimism becomes a sustainable campaign. Asiku offers experience in demanding matches and should also help younger defenders understand the concentration, communication and discipline required at this level.

Bashir Asiku’s Career Journey
Born on May 28, 2000, Asiku developed through the Vipers SC youth system and represented Uganda at under-17 and under-20 levels. Those foundations introduced him to competitive football before his senior career took him through several domestic clubs.
He has previously represented Vipers, Express, Wakiso Giants, Gaddafi and Lugazi before his spell at Calvary. Lugazi signed him from Gaddafi in July 2024 as the club prepared for its own Premier League campaign.
That journey has exposed Asiku to different tactical approaches, dressing-room environments and competitive pressures. He also has experience from CAF club competitions, an important addition for a Blacks Power squad stepping up from the second tier.
The precise length and financial terms of his Blacks Power agreement were not publicly disclosed in the reports available at publication. His transfer should therefore be described as confirmed without attaching an unsupported contract period or fee.
Why Blacks Power Signed Asiku
The decision appears driven by the need for reliability. Promoted clubs often possess enough attacking energy to trouble established opponents, but they can be punished by errors, weak positioning and poor game management.
Asiku should improve competition for defensive places while giving Mugerwa greater flexibility. He can support attacks from full-back, defend wide spaces and provide cover centrally when required. His seniority may also be useful during difficult away matches or when Blacks Power must protect a narrow advantage.
The club has retained Rajab Fazil, Joshua Omara, Michael Siwu and Emmanuel Oketch, indicating an effort to preserve the core that secured promotion while adding proven top-flight quality.
New Season Begins Against Ntugasaze
Blacks Power are scheduled to open their campaign against fellow newcomers Ntugasaze at Hoima City Stadium on Saturday, August 29. The club will temporarily use Hoima because Ebenezer Stadium did not satisfy the required licensing standards.
That opening fixture provides an early measure of two promoted teams. Familiarity may make the contest competitive, but the Premier League environment will place greater pressure on both sides to manage transitions, set pieces and decisive moments.

Verdict
Signing Asiku is a sensible move for Blacks Power. He brings versatility, league knowledge and leadership to a club facing the challenge of adapting quickly after promotion.
His reputation alone will not secure results, but consistent performances could strengthen Blacks Power’s defensive structure and improve their prospects of establishing themselves in the Uganda Premier League.
