Arsenal welcome Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 6 September 2026, for an early Premier League title-race test between two teams with perfect starts. Kick-off is at 6:30 pm EAT in Uganda.

For Ugandan football fans, this is the sort of Super Sunday fixture that can stop the usual evening plans. Arsenal are the defending champions and have begun their league campaign with two wins and two clean sheets. At the same time, Chelsea have also won both league matches under new manager Xabi Alonso. The difference is style: Arsenal have looked controlled and difficult to break down; Chelsea have been electric going forward but much less convincing without the ball.

The first competitive meeting between long-time friends Mikel Arteta and Alonso as rival managers adds another layer to an already fierce London derby.

Arsenal vs Chelsea Match Preview

Arsenal come into the match with momentum, confidence and a familiar defensive discipline. Arteta’s side followed their Community Shield win with Premier League victories over Coventry City and Aston Villa, without conceding in the league. Across the opening two matchweeks, the Gunners allowed the fewest shots, shots on target and expected goals of any Premier League club, a serious warning to Chelsea’s attack. Opta Analyst

The hosts have not always been spectacular, but they have been reliable. Their midfield, led by Declan Rice, has protected the back line well, while Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard can still decide tight games in a moment.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have started life under Alonso with three wins in all competitions. Their 4-3 league victory over Brighton showed why they are becoming one of the division’s most entertaining teams. João Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers have formed a quick, inventive front line, but five goals conceded in two league games shows that the Blues are still a work in progress defensively.

That contrast is the central story: Arsenal’s defensive structure against Chelsea’s attacking flair. If Chelsea start as sharply as they did in their opening fixtures, Arsenal will face their biggest defensive examination of the season. If Arsenal can control midfield and force Chelsea to defend deep, the home side’s patience and superior recent record in this fixture may prove decisive.

Arsenal vs Chelsea Head-to-Head Record

Recent history strongly favours Arsenal.

The Gunners are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League meetings with Chelsea, winning six and drawing three. Chelsea have also lost their last four league visits to Arsenal by an aggregate score of 11-2, while their most recent top-flight win at the Emirates came in August 2021.

Arsenal also carry an excellent London derby record. They are unbeaten in 16 Premier League derbies, with 12 wins and four draws. For Chelsea, therefore, this match is about more than preserving a 100% start; it is a chance to end a run that has become increasingly uncomfortable for the Blues.

Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Arsenal have injury questions in defence. Cristhian Mosquera and Declan Rice both came off against Aston Villa, although Rice has trained and is expected to be available. Jurrien Timber has returned to training, but William Saliba remains sidelined. Ezri Konsa could be in line for a full debut if Mosquera is unavailable.

Chelsea’s biggest concern is Moisés Caicedo. The midfielder returned against Brighton but had to leave the game shortly after coming on. Alonso said a final decision on his availability would be made when selecting the squad. Emmanuel Emegha is also still building fitness after a pre-season injury.

Arsenal possible XI: Raya; White, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Lewis-Skelly; Saka, Ødegaard, Tzolis; Havertz.

Chelsea possible XI: Martínez; Fofana, Lacroix, Colwill; James, Gusto, Lavia, Hato; Palmer, Rogers; João Pedro.

These are projected line-ups, not confirmed teams. The official elevens will be named about an hour before kick-off.

Players to Watch

Bukayo Saka — Arsenal

Saka is Arsenal’s most direct threat. He has scored in each of his last two Premier League appearances and has the quality to expose Chelsea’s vulnerable wide areas. His duel against Chelsea’s left-sided defenders could shape the game.

Declan Rice — Arsenal

If fit, Rice will be crucial to Arsenal’s control. Chelsea’s forwards rotate fluidly between the lines, so Rice’s ability to win second balls, cover transitions and move Arsenal forward quickly will be vital.

Kai Havertz — Arsenal

Havertz faces his former club and has a notable record against them at the Emirates. He has scored three goals in three home appearances against Chelsea since joining Arsenal, making him a natural candidate for an anytime-goalscorer conversation.

Cole Palmer — Chelsea

Palmer is the Blues’ game-changer. He enters the match on 49 Premier League goals for Chelsea and could reach 50 in his 99th appearance. His movement around the penalty area and link-up with João Pedro will demand constant attention.

João Pedro — Chelsea

João Pedro has started the season in outstanding form, recording a goal and an assist in both league matches. His movement between centre-backs and his combination play make him Chelsea’s most dangerous attacking outlet.

Arsenal vs Chelsea Prediction

Chelsea have enough attacking quality to score, especially with Palmer and João Pedro in form. However, Arsenal’s defensive numbers, home advantage and dominant recent record against Chelsea make the champions the stronger pick.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea

Arsenal should have more control in midfield and may find joy against a Chelsea defence that has not kept a Premier League clean sheet in 18 matches. Opta’s pre-match model gives Arsenal a 57.4% chance of victory, compared with Chelsea’s 19.2%.

Betting Insights for Uganda

For bettors in Uganda, the sensible angle is to focus on the match pattern rather than chase a high-risk correct score. Arsenal’s home form and Chelsea’s defensive issues make Arsenal to win a logical starting point. The more balanced selection is Arsenal to win and both teams to score, because Chelsea have scored freely while Arsenal are well placed to punish them at the Emirates.

Other markets worth considering include:

  • Both teams to score
  • Over 2.5 goals
  • Bukayo Saka to score or assist
  • João Pedro to score or assist
  • Kai Havertz anytime goalscorer

Odds move quickly, especially after confirmed line-ups. Never stake money you cannot afford to lose, and avoid treating a prediction as a guarantee.

Final Verdict

Arsenal vs Chelsea should be one of the first defining matches of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Arsenal bring the stronger defensive base, home advantage and a compelling head-to-head record. Chelsea arrive with an attack capable of troubling anyone, but their defensive uncertainty and midfield fitness concerns give Arsenal the edge.

Expect a tense, high-quality London derby — and an Arsenal win by a narrow margin.
