Liverpool Sign Bradley Barcola from PSG in £123m Deal

Liverpool have signed Bradley Barcola from PSG for up to £123m. Discover the transfer details, why he was signed, and his expected Anfield impact.

Liverpool have completed the signing of France international Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that could eventually cost £123 million.

The 23-year-old passed his medical at the AXA Training Centre and signed a five-year contract, subject to international clearance. He will wear the No.29 shirt at Anfield and becomes the second-most expensive signing in Liverpool history.

His arrival provides new head coach Andoni Iraola with a fast, direct and versatile attacker capable of transforming Liverpool’s play in wide areas.

The final fee places Barcola behind only Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for £125 million in 2025, among the club’s most expensive purchases.

PSG had reportedly valued the winger at approximately £145 million earlier in the summer. Liverpool eventually secured him for £106 million upfront, with performance-related additions potentially increasing the total to £123 million.

Why Liverpool Signed Bradley Barcola

Liverpool prioritised strengthening the wings following Mohamed Salah’s departure to Trabzonspor. Although replacing Salah’s extraordinary production directly is almost impossible, Barcola gives Iraola a proven forward with pace, Champions League experience and considerable room for further development.

He was a long-term Liverpool target and reportedly rejected interest from elsewhere because he wanted to move to Anfield. The Reds believe his profile suits Iraola’s aggressive and transition-focused approach.

Barcola normally begins on the left, where he can remain wide, isolate defenders and accelerate into open space. He is also capable of moving centrally or operating from the right, giving Liverpool greater tactical flexibility.

The Premier League’s analysis highlighted his ability to stretch defences, attack quickly after turnovers and contribute to pressing. Barcola recovered possession in the attacking third 23 times during the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, more than any other PSG player.

Barcola’s Career Statistics and Honours

Barcola developed at Lyon, making his senior debut in November 2021. He registered seven goals and 11 assists in 47 appearances before moving to PSG in August 2023.

During three seasons in Paris, he made 152 appearances, scored 39 goals and provided 35 assists. His honours included:

  • Three consecutive Ligue 1 titles;
  • Two Coupe de France trophies; and
  • Two successive UEFA Champions League titles.

He contributed 13 goals and eight assists across all competitions during his final PSG season. His pace, dribbling and off-ball movement made him a consistent threat even when he was not guaranteed a starting position.

Barcola has also earned 28 senior appearances for France, scoring six goals. Three of those came during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where France finished fourth.

How Barcola Fits into Liverpool’s Attack

Iraola generally prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation in which the wingers attack space quickly and apply pressure high up the pitch. Barcola’s acceleration and willingness to run directly at opponents appear ideally suited to that system.

Alexander Isak can drop deeper or move towards the left, potentially creating central spaces for Barcola to attack. The Frenchman could also combine effectively with Hugo Ekitike, whom he knows from PSG and the French national team.

Liverpool now have several wide options, including Barcola, Cody Gakpo, Victor Muñoz and Rio Ngumoha. Florian Wirtz can also operate from the left or behind the striker.

That depth should allow Iraola to rotate his forwards across the Premier League, Champions League and domestic cup competitions without losing speed or creativity.

Is Barcola Really Salah’s Replacement?

The comparison is understandable but imperfect. Salah produced most of his best football cutting inside from the right onto his stronger left foot. Barcola is naturally more effective on the left and prefers using his right foot when moving centrally.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has questioned whether another left-sided forward provides the balance Liverpool needed. The squad already contained several players comfortable on that flank before Barcola’s arrival.

However, Liverpool may be replacing Salah’s influence collectively rather than expecting one player to reproduce his numbers. Barcola’s ability to create, score and press can complement Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz while allowing Iraola to construct a different attacking system.

Will Barcola Make Liverpool Better?

Barcola should improve Liverpool’s speed, width and ability to attack unsettled defences. He possesses major European experience despite his age and has already performed against Premier League opponents in the Champions League.

There are still risks. His £123 million potential price creates immediate expectations, while adapting to the physical intensity of English football could take time. His preferred position also overlaps with Gakpo and other left-sided attackers.

Nevertheless, his age, experience and tactical suitability make the transfer a strong long-term investment. If Iraola establishes the correct balance around him, Barcola can become one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wide forwards.

Why Ugandan Liverpool and EPL Fans Should Be Excited

For Liverpool supporters in Kampala, Jinja, Gulu, Mbarara and across Uganda, Barcola’s arrival adds another exciting storyline to the Premier League season.

Ugandan fans can expect a forward who attacks defenders, plays with urgency and is comfortable on major European stages. His potential combinations with Isak and Ekitike could make Liverpool one of the league’s most entertaining attacking teams.

The signing also strengthens the broader Premier League spectacle. Rival supporters will closely follow whether Barcola can justify his enormous fee and help Liverpool challenge for the title after beginning Iraola’s reign with consecutive 2-2 draws.

Take Home

Liverpool signed Barcola because they needed elite speed, creativity and long-term attacking quality after Salah’s departure. The Frenchman is not an identical replacement, but his ability to stretch defences, attack transitions and press aggressively fits Iraola’s methods.

The fee is enormous, and positional balance remains a legitimate concern. However, Barcola has the talent, experience and ambition to improve Liverpool immediately while developing into a central figure at Anfield.
