Raphinha Opens the Scoring from the Spot

Barcelona did not immediately dominate an Elche side determined to compete energetically. However, the visitors gained control after Víctor Chust brought Raphinha down inside the penalty area.

The Brazilian calmly converted the resulting penalty in the 14th minute, sending goalkeeper Matías Dituro the wrong way. The goal settled Flick’s team and allowed their pressing and movement to become increasingly influential.

Adeyemi Scores on Barcelona Debut

Karim Adeyemi initially struggled to make a consistent impact from the left wing but improved as the first half progressed. Deep into stoppage time, Raphinha unselfishly found the German international, who finished confidently to double Barcelona’s lead.

The goal marked Adeyemi’s first competitive appearance and goal for the Catalan club. Barcelona reached half-time with a 2-0 advantage.

Gordon Inspires Barcelona’s Second-Half Surge

Flick introduced Anthony Gordon and Dani Olmo during the second half, increasing Barcelona’s speed and creativity. Gordon made an immediate impact on his competitive debut by creating two goals.

In the 67th minute, the former Newcastle United winger supplied Raphinha, who converted to complete his brace. Four minutes later, Gordon found Fermín, allowing the midfielder to score Barcelona’s fourth.

The rout was completed in the 79th minute when youngster Xavi Espart released Fermín. After turning inside the penalty area, the midfielder calmly beat Dituro to complete his own two-goal contribution.

According to Al Jazeera’s Elche-Barcelona match report, Gordon’s energetic cameo provided two assists, while Adeyemi also marked his debut with a goal. The ESPN match analysis similarly highlighted the braces scored by Raphinha and Fermín.

What the Victory Means for Barcelona

The result gives Barcelona three points from their opening fixture and places immediate pressure on Real Madrid, who began José Mourinho’s second spell with a narrower 2-1 victory at Espanyol.

More significantly, Barcelona demonstrated impressive attacking depth despite Flick leaving several established players on the bench following the World Cup. Raphinha supplied leadership and efficiency, Adeyemi made a positive start, and Gordon changed the match after entering.

End Note

Barcelona could hardly have requested a stronger opening result. Raphinha led decisively with two goals and an assist, Fermín demonstrated his finishing ability, and the new arrivals immediately contributed.

Elche competed during sections of the match but could not contain Barcelona once the champions increased their tempo. The 5-0 victory provides confidence, goal difference and an early statement of intent, although one result cannot determine a long title race. Barcelona’s challenge is now to reproduce this attacking authority consistently while strengthening their defensive control.
