Luis Enrique’s side bounce back to top Group B and eye historic Club World Cup title

Paris Saint-Germain reignited their Club World Cup 2025 campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field, securing their place in the Round of 16. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi sealed the win for the Ligue 1 champions, who finished top of Group B on goal difference.

Kvaratskhelia and Hakimi Deliver When It Matters

After a shock 1-0 defeat to Botafogo in their second group match, PSG entered the final fixture needing a win to guarantee progression. They responded with a composed and clinical performance against the MLS side, dominating possession (66%) and dictating the tempo from the outset

The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Vitinha’s shot deflected off Kvaratskhelia’s back and wrong-footed Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei. The Georgian winger, who has been instrumental throughout the tournament, was credited with the goal that gave PSG a deserved lead.

In the second half, PSG continued to press, and their persistence paid off in the 66th minute. Substitute Bradley Barcola surged down the left flank and squared the ball to Hakimi, who calmly slotted home to double the lead.

Seattle’s Brave Resistance Falls Short

Despite the loss, Seattle Sounders showed resilience in front of a passionate home crowd.

Jesus Ferreira had a golden opportunity to equalize in the first half after capitalizing on a rare Donnarumma error, but the forward fired wide. Frei made several key saves to keep the scoreline respectable, but the Sounders ultimately exited the tournament without a win.
