Bangbet Uganda has contributed UGX 22 million to support Chinese-language scholarships for students at Makerere University’s Confucius Institute.
Everwin Golden Silk Uganda Company Limited, trading as Bangbet Uganda, has contributed USD 6,000—approximately UGX 22 million to support Chinese-language scholarships at the Confucius Institute at Makerere University.
The scholarships were awarded on Friday, 14 August, to first, second- and third-year students pursuing Chinese-language studies at the institute.
The ceremony also recognised previous scholarship recipients with certificates and welcomed new students joining the institute.

Students Welcome Scholarship Support
Several scholarship recipients thanked Bangbet Uganda for supporting their education. They said the initiative would help them continue their studies while strengthening connections between Uganda and China through language, culture and education.
Why the Scholarship Matters
Chinese-language proficiency can prepare Ugandan students for opportunities in trade, tourism, translation, diplomacy and other fields connected to Uganda–China relations.
Through its language and cultural programmes, the Confucius Institute at Makerere University equips students with communication skills and cross-cultural knowledge that may improve their academic and career prospects.
The UGX 22 million contribution reflects the role private-sector organisations can play in expanding access to education and supporting students as they prepare for the workplace.
