Fenerbahce vs Liverpool: Match Summary
Fenerbahce 3 – 2 Liverpool
First Half: Liverpool Strike, Fenerbahce Respond
Heavy rain greeted both teams in Istanbul, but the challenging conditions did little to dampen the attacking intensity.
Liverpool dominated the early exchanges, with Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola threatening Fenerbahce’s defense. The visitors eventually broke the deadlock when young midfielder Trey Nyoni volleyed home his first senior goal, leaving goalkeeper Ederson helpless.
Fenerbahce responded immediately. Irfan Kahveci rattled the crossbar before Mason Greenwood’s free-kick deflected off Jeremy Jacquet and beat Alisson to level the score.
The Turkish hosts grew increasingly confident, with Greenwood forcing another important save before halftime.
Second Half: Isak Scores, but Fenerbahce Fight Back
Liverpool emerged from the break determined to regain control.
Ederson produced crucial saves to deny Barcola and Virgil van Dijk, while Munoz also threatened the hosts’ goal.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola introduced attacking reinforcements, and the decision initially paid off.
Alexander Isak headed home Cody Gakpo’s cross with his first touch, registering his first Champions League goal for Liverpool and restoring the visitors’ advantage.
However, Fenerbahce refused to surrender.
Moments later, Gakpo inadvertently flicked on a Fenerbahce corner, allowing Archie Brown to score a simple equalizer at the far post.
With momentum shifting, substitute Vedat Muriqi delivered the decisive moment. The towering striker rose above Jacquet to power a header past Alisson, completing a remarkable 3-2 comeback.
