RB Leipzig Agree Nkunku Return as Ismaila Sarr Pushes for Galatasaray Move

The European transfer market has produced two major developments, with Christopher Nkunku closing in on a return to RB Leipzig and Ismaila Sarr pushing to leave Crystal Palace for Galatasaray.

RB Leipzig have reached a verbal agreement with AC Milan to sign Nkunku on an initial loan containing a non-mandatory option to buy. Meanwhile, Sarr has reportedly agreed personal terms with Galatasaray, although the Turkish club have yet to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace.

Both deals involve players actively seeking moves, but they have reached very different stages of negotiation.

RB Leipzig Agree Deal to Re-Sign Christopher Nkunku

RB Leipzig have agreed terms with AC Milan for the return of Christopher Nkunku.

The proposed agreement will see Leipzig pay a €3.5 million loan fee. The contract will also contain an option to buy the French attacker for a fixed fee below €30 million.

Importantly, the purchase option is not mandatory. That means RB Leipzig will have the right—but not the obligation—to sign Nkunku permanently when the loan ends.

The arrangement reduces the immediate financial risk for Leipzig. The Bundesliga club can assess Nkunku’s fitness, form and tactical influence before deciding whether to complete a permanent transfer.

For AC Milan, the deal creates an opportunity for the attacker to secure regular playing time while potentially increasing the chances of a future sale.

Nkunku Prioritises RB Leipzig Return

Nkunku reportedly wanted to rejoin Leipzig despite receiving proposals from clubs in the United Kingdom.

The decision represents a return to familiar surroundings for the French international, who previously produced some of the finest football of his career in Germany. His technical quality, movement and versatility made him one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous attacking players.

Nkunku can operate as a centre-forward, second striker, attacking midfielder or wide forward. That flexibility should provide Leipzig with several tactical options across domestic and European competitions.

Returning to a club where he previously enjoyed success may also help him rediscover his confidence and consistency. Familiarity with the Bundesliga could reduce the adaptation period normally required after a transfer.

Why the Nkunku Deal Makes Sense for Leipzig

The structure of the agreement gives RB Leipzig a potentially high-upside signing without requiring an immediate permanent investment.

The club will initially commit €3.5 million for the loan. Leipzig can then evaluate several factors before activating the option to buy:

  • Nkunku’s fitness and availability
  • His goals and assists
  • His tactical suitability
  • His overall influence on the team
  • The value of the permanent transfer fee

If Nkunku returns to his best form, securing him for under €30 million could represent excellent value. If the loan does not work as expected, Leipzig can allow him to return to AC Milan without being forced to complete the purchase.

The proposed move therefore combines sporting ambition with financial flexibility.

Ismaila Sarr Pushes for Galatasaray Transfer

While Nkunku’s move has reached the verbal-agreement stage, Ismaila Sarr’s potential transfer to Galatasaray remains unresolved.

The Senegal international has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Turkish champions and wants to complete the move. Galatasaray have already submitted an initial bid worth approximately €30 million, but Crystal Palace rejected the offer.

No club-to-club agreement has been reached, and Palace would prefer to keep Sarr. However, the winger continues to push for permission to move to Istanbul.

His exclusion from the Crystal Palace squad has intensified speculation about his future.

Sarr Left Out Despite Manager’s Previous Indication

Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage had indicated that Sarr was expected to feature against Everton. However, the winger was subsequently left out of the matchday squad and did not appear among the substitutes.

That decision represents a significant development in the transfer story. While it does not confirm that a move will happen, it suggests that negotiations and the player’s desire to leave may be affecting his availability.

Galatasaray must now decide whether to improve their offer and meet Palace’s valuation. The Premier League club retain control because Sarr remains under contract, meaning personal terms alone cannot complete the transfer.

For the deal to proceed, Galatasaray and Crystal Palace must agree on the transfer fee, payment structure and any potential bonuses.

What Sarr Would Bring to Galatasaray

Sarr would add speed, directness and experience to Galatasaray’s attack.

The Senegalese forward is most dangerous when given space to run behind defenders. He can play on either wing, carry the ball during counterattacks and provide an additional scoring threat.

His experience in English football and at international level could make him an important addition for a Galatasaray side targeting domestic trophies and progress in Europe.

The Istanbul club appear to have convinced the player, but reaching an agreement with Palace remains the decisive step.

Two Transfer Stories at Different Stages

Nkunku’s return to Leipzig appears to be progressing towards completion, with the clubs having verbally agreed the loan structure. The remaining process is expected to include formal documentation and the usual steps required before registration.

Sarr’s situation remains less certain. The player wants Galatasaray, but Crystal Palace have rejected the opening offer and do not currently want to sell.

The next move belongs to Galatasaray. An improved bid could accelerate negotiations, while failure to satisfy Palace’s demands may leave Sarr at Selhurst Park.

Nkunku, meanwhile, is preparing for an emotional return to the club where he previously established himself as one of Europe’s leading attackers. On paper, the deal deserves a strong rating—but his performances will ultimately determine whether Leipzig activate the permanent option.
