Barcelona 5-2 Rayo: Yamal, Raphinha Shine

Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 LaLiga season with an entertaining 5-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano, extending their remarkable home league winning streak to 21 matches.

Despite falling behind early, Hansi Flick’s side responded emphatically as Lamine Yamal and Raphinha both scored twice. At the same time, a Florian Lejeune own goal helped the reigning champions secure another three points.

The result leaves Barcelona with three wins from three LaLiga matches, while Rayo remain on just one point.

Rayo Vallecano Shock Barcelona Early

Barcelona began on the front foot, but it was Rayo who stunned the home crowd inside 12 minutes.

Álvaro García raced down the left before cutting the ball back for Sergio Camello, who produced an excellent finish into the top corner. It was Rayo’s first goal on a trip to Barcelona in five attempts.

The setback did little to disrupt Barça.

Raphinha soon forced Daniel Cárdenas into action before eventually finding the equalizer. Collecting a pass from Xavi Espart, the Brazilian glided beyond the final defender and calmly rolled his finish past the goalkeeper.

Lamine Yamal Opens His 2026/27 Account

Barcelona quickly turned the match around.

After regaining possession near Rayo’s penalty area, Marc Bernal found Lamine Yamal, who shifted the ball onto his favored left foot and powered his shot beyond Cárdenas at the near post.

It was the teenager’s first LaLiga goal of the 2026/27 season and gave Barcelona a 2-1 advantage.

Pedri and Anthony Gordon had opportunities to extend the lead, while Jules Koundé thought he had added a third just before half-time, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

Barcelona Extend Their Lead

The hosts needed only six minutes after the restart to establish some breathing room.

Dani Olmo played Anthony Gordon through, and the winger’s dangerous delivery across goal was inadvertently turned into his own net by Florian Lejeune, making it 3-1.

Rayo refused to surrender.

Camello rose highest from an Unai López corner to head home his second goal and reduce the deficit to 3-2 before the hour mark.

Moments later, he almost completed his hat-trick after goalkeeper Joan García failed to deal convincingly with a Fran Pérez volley. Still, Pau Cubarsí produced a crucial block to preserve Barcelona’s advantage.

Raphinha and Yamal Seal 5-2 Victory

With Rayo threatening an equalizer, Barcelona’s attacking quality eventually proved decisive.

Gordon controlled a long ball near the edge of the penalty area before cleverly backheeling it into the path of Raphinha, who drilled home his second of the evening and fifth goal of the campaign.

Rayo continued pushing forward, with Randy Nteka testing García, but Barcelona had the final say.

Karim Adeyemi supplied Lamine Yamal, and the youngster curled a composed finish into the bottom corner to complete his brace and seal a spectacular 5-2 Barcelona victory.

Barcelona’s Incredible La Liga Run Continues

Barcelona’s perfect start now reads three victories from three matches, while their home dominance has reached an extraordinary 21 consecutive LaLiga wins.

Another fascinating statistic highlights the all-or-nothing nature of Barça’s league form. They have now gone 38 LaLiga matches without a draw, recording 32 victories and six defeats during that period.

Rayo Vallecano, meanwhile, remain on just one point and continue to struggle in this fixture, having registered only one victory against Barcelona in the 21st century.

What the Result Means

Barcelona’s attacking firepower will be particularly encouraging for Hansi Flick. Raphinha is already up to five goals this season, while Yamal’s first two strikes of the campaign underline his importance to the defending champions.

The performance was not flawless, however. Rayo scored twice and came dangerously close to making it 3-3, giving Flick defensive issues to address despite the emphatic scoreline.

For Rayo, Camello’s brace offered encouragement, but their inability to contain Barcelona’s attacking stars ultimately proved costly.

Final Verdict

Barcelona 5-2 Rayo Vallecano was another statement of attacking intent from the reigning LaLiga champions.

Rayo twice demonstrated they could trouble Flick’s side, but Barcelona simply possessed too much quality going forward. With Raphinha and Lamine Yamal both grabbing braces, Barça made it three wins from three and strengthened their impressive early-season momentum.

If their attack continues performing at this level, Barcelona will once again be extremely difficult to stop in the 2026/27 LaLiga title race.
