Tresoldi Hat-Trick Produces San Siro Shock

Inter Milan 3-4 Club Brugge

Nicolò Tresoldi scored a sensational hat-trick as Club Brugge defeated Inter Milan 4-3 in an unforgettable UEFA Champions League encounter at San Siro.

Tresoldi opened the scoring from the penalty spot before adding two more goals during the second half. Lautaro Martínez struck twice for Inter, but Romeo Vermant’s late finish ultimately secured a famous victory for the Belgian side.

Ange-Yoan Bonny gave Inter one final hope with a stoppage-time goal, but Club Brugge survived the closing pressure to collect their first points of the league phase. Inter, meanwhile, remain without a point following two consecutive European defeats.

Tresoldi Punishes Inter from the Penalty Spot

Inter started positively and immediately placed Club Brugge’s defence under pressure.

Marcus Thuram, Lautaro and Andy Diouf all attempted to create an early breakthrough, but the visitors defended with discipline before threatening at the opposite end. Tresoldi came close when he struck the woodwork following a corner that Inter failed to clear.

Club Brugge eventually took the lead in the 30th minute.

Carlos Forbs launched a rapid counterattack from an Inter corner and carried the ball from his own half. Hakan Çalhanoğlu brought the winger down inside the penalty area, leaving the referee with little choice but to award a penalty.

Tresoldi confidently sent his spot kick into the top-right corner to make it 1-0.

Lautaro Martínez Brings Inter Level

Inter responded by increasing their attacking pressure.

Çalhanoğlu nearly made amends for conceding the penalty when his powerful effort struck the crossbar. Lautaro then placed the ball in the net from a free-kick, only for the goal to be ruled out because the Inter captain was offside.

Lautaro was not denied for long.

In the 44th minute, the Argentine combined with Federico Dimarco and Thuram before holding off Brandon Mechele and finishing past Yann Sommer. The goal sent the teams into half-time level at 1-1 and appeared to give Inter control of the match.

Club Brugge, however, had other plans.

Nicolò Tresoldi Completes Stunning Hat-Trick

Inter started the second half aggressively, with Sommer producing an excellent save to prevent Lautaro from scoring his second goal.

That intervention became even more important when Club Brugge regained the lead in the 63rd minute.

Forbs chased a long pass and took advantage of hesitation from Inter goalkeeper Josep Martínez. The winger collected the ball before finding Tresoldi, who calmly finished into the empty net.

Eleven minutes later, the 22-year-old completed his hat-trick. Forbs cut inside and had his shot saved, but Tresoldi reacted quickest to place the rebound into the net off the post.

Club Brugge suddenly led 3-1 at San Siro.

Tresoldi became the first Club Brugge player to score a Champions League hat-trick. At 22 years and 54 days, he also became the youngest German player to achieve the feat in the competition.

Lautaro Keeps Inter’s Comeback Hopes Alive

Inter refused to surrender.

In the 81st minute, Petar Sučić’s shot was saved by Sommer, but Lautaro was perfectly positioned to convert the rebound. His second goal reduced the deficit to 3-2 and transformed the closing stages into a frantic battle.

Cristian Chivu’s team pushed additional players forward in search of an equaliser. However, their attacking approach left spaces for Club Brugge to counter.

The visitors exploited one of those spaces in the 87th minute. Substitute Vermant raced clear and produced a delicate finish over Martínez to restore Brugge’s two-goal advantage.

The Belgian side appeared to have secured the victory, but the drama was not over.

Bonny Scores but Club Brugge Hold On

Bonny gave Inter renewed hope in the third minute of stoppage time.

The forward moved inside from the flank before curling an excellent finish into the top corner for his first Champions League goal. Inter were back within one goal at 4-3.

The hosts launched one final attack, but Club Brugge protected their advantage until the final whistle.

UEFA’s official match record confirmed that Tresoldi scored in the 30th, 63rd and 74th minutes, while Vermant added the fourth in the 87th minute. Lautaro’s brace and Bonny’s stoppage-time strike were not enough to rescue Inter.

Inter Dominate Statistics but Lose the Match

The match statistics underline how surprising the result was.

Inter registered 27 attempts compared with Club Brugge’s 16 and placed 12 shots on target. The visitors tested Martínez seven times and converted four of those opportunities.

Inter also controlled 54% of possession, completed 527 passes and recorded an accuracy of 89%. Club Brugge completed 403 passes with 88% accuracy.

However, the visitors were more clinical in the decisive moments. Their speed on the counterattack repeatedly exposed Inter’s defensive imbalance, while Tresoldi punished nearly every mistake.

Chivu’s side created enough opportunities to win the contest but failed to control Club Brugge’s transitions.

Historic Night for Club Brugge

The result represented Club Brugge’s first victory of the Champions League league phase and moved them onto three points.

It was also the Belgian club’s first competitive meeting with Inter and made them the first Belgian team to defeat the Nerazzurri in the Champions League. Brugge have now won three of their last four matches against Italian opposition in the competition.

Inter have lost their opening two league-phase matches and sit near the bottom of the standings. The Italian side must respond quickly to keep their hopes of automatic qualification alive.

For Club Brugge and Tresoldi, the night at San Siro will remain unforgettable.
