Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 Ghana
Ghana began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign with a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Côte d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké.

Yalcouyé Shines as Côte d’Ivoire’s Matchwinner
Although Kessié provided experience and leadership, Yalcouyé was the outstanding player on the pitch.
The 20-year-old scored a brilliant opening goal, won the second-half penalty and consistently caused problems with his energy and movement. His performance provided an exciting glimpse of what he could offer the Ivorian national team.
Yan Diomande also impressed with his dribbling, while the Côte d’Ivoire defence restricted Ghana to very few meaningful opportunities.
For the Black Stars, the defeat exposed concerns in both attack and midfield. Ghana lacked creativity and struggled to progress the ball when Côte d’Ivoire applied pressure.

Ghana must respond when they face The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29, 2026. The Black Stars cannot afford another poor result if they want to remain competitive in Group C.
Queiroz will hope for greater urgency, improved passing in midfield and more clinical finishing in front of the Ghanaian supporters.
