Matheus Cunha\u2019s deflected 89th-minute equaliser rescued Manchester United from defeat in a 1-1 Premier League draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The Brazilian cancelled out Lisandro Martinez\u2019s own goal, but another uneven performance increased scrutiny of Michael Carrick\u2019s team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United entered the fixture after beating Ipswich Town<\/a> 5-2, losing 1-0 to Manchester City<\/a> and suffering a 2-0 opening defeat at Hull City. Fulham\u2019s two previous league matches had produced a 0-0 draw at Liverpool<\/a> and a 3-2 home defeat by Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The point left United 12th with five points from five matches, their joint-lowest total at that stage of a Premier League season. Fulham moved to two points but remained without a league victory under Alvaro Arbeloa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manchester United recorded plenty of first-half attempts without playing with fluency. Bruno Fernandes struck the post, while Marcus Rashford failed to apply the required finish after a promising attacking move. The second half began slowly, with neither team producing a shot during its opening 15 minutes. Fulham eventually increased the tempo and were rewarded in the 63rd minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calvin Bassey won possession from Cunha, drove into the penalty area and struck a low effort towards goal. Lammens blocked the attempt, but the rebound hit Martinez and travelled back across the line. The defender received the own goal as Fulham claimed a deserved advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United responded with greater attacking urgency. Bryan Mbeumo curled a dangerous effort towards the far corner, forcing Leno into an excellent diving save. Cunha also tested the Fulham goalkeeper after turning strongly in midfield and attacking the space ahead of him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carrick introduced Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu as United searched for a late equaliser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
