The Chaapa League Season 11 finale returns to Mbarara High School as eight teams battle for the title under the “Back to the Kraal” theme.

Mbarara High School will become the centre of Uganda’s alumni football scene on Saturday, September 19, 2026, when the Chaapa League Season 11 finale returns to the school grounds. Staged under the theme “Back to the Kraal,” the closing event will combine knockout football, reunion, entertainment and recognition of the campaign’s outstanding performers.

The journey to Mbarara began on Friday as players, supporters and former students gathered in Kampala before travelling west. Buses assembled at Black Panther in Bukoto, where separate year groups quickly blended into one travelling Chaapa community. Alumni leaders and Uganda Police officials flagged off the convoy, adding ceremony to a trip carrying both sporting ambition and personal memories.

Season 11’s regular programme was played in Kampala, where teams competed for eight places at the decisive Mbarara event. The one-day knockout format leaves little room for recovery: every quarterfinal winner must reach a semifinal before the last two teams contest the championship.

Four Quarterfinals Set the Stage

Defending champions Yobo Yobo begin their title defence against CHOGM FC. Yobo Yobo arrive with the status earned by their 1-0 victory over Bulls OldTimers in last season’s final, but knockout football offers no protection to the holder.

SC Rwizi will meet Dingiswayo FC in another intriguing tie, while See Far face Bulls OldTimers. The latter gives Bulls OldTimers an immediate opportunity to rebuild after finishing runners-up last season. CF Burdizo and Rugabo City complete the quarterfinal programme.

The compressed format will test more than technical ability. Squad depth, fitness, discipline and recovery between matches could determine which sides remain effective late in the day. Teams must chase victory without losing their tactical balance because one mistake can end an entire season.

A Return Carrying Deeper Meaning

“Back to the Kraal” captures why this finale matters beyond the trophy. Mbarara High School is the shared starting point that links alumni across generations. Returning to the campus turns the event into a homecoming and allows participants to revisit old friendships while building new connections through football.

The league entered its second decade with an expanded Season 11. Its February launch introduced younger cohorts TY Sheldon and Ezekyenda, taking the announced lineup to 20 teams. Organisers said the campaign would preserve its competitive knockout approach while continuing community and environmental initiatives.

Its longevity reflects commitment across several alumni generations.

Women’s Fixture Broadens the Programme

The finale is not limited to the men’s championship. Holistics, a Maryhill High School alumni team, will play a select side from the Maryhill Old Girls Association, commonly known as MOGA.

The women’s fixture broadens the day’s appeal and gives female alumni a visible place within the celebration. Holistics captain Sheeba Ahereza said participation had helped her team connect with a wider alumni football community. Its inclusion strengthens the finale’s message that the weekend is about shared identity and participation as much as results.

Guinness Partnership and Matchday Experience

Guinness is powering the quarterfinals and supporting the wider finale. Uganda Breweries Limited Senior Brand Manager Denise Paula Nazzinda said the intention is to deliver strong football, company and memorable fan moments.

Season 11 Awards to Recognise Excellence

Attention will not fall only on the champions. Organisers have announced awards for the Most Improved Team, Identity Award and Smartest Team. Individual honours will recognise the Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder and Best Forward.

What to Watch in Mbarara

Yobo Yobo’s defence of the crown provides the clearest storyline, but each quarterfinal has genuine consequence. Bulls OldTimers will want another opportunity at the trophy, while six other challengers can reshape the competition with a disciplined knockout run.

The schedule also creates a demanding football examination. A champion must potentially win three matches in one day, making game management vital. Early control, careful substitutions and composure under pressure may matter as much as attacking flair. Support from the returning alumni could also transform the school grounds into a distinctive homecoming atmosphere.

Verdict

The Chaapa League Season 11 finale promises far more than a title race. It brings competition back to the institution that connects its participants, gives women’s alumni football a place on the programme and celebrates the people who sustained another season.

Yobo Yobo carry the champion’s target, yet the knockout route means reputation alone will not be enough. By Saturday evening, one team will lift the trophy, but the larger success will be a vibrant reunion that reinforces Mbarara High School’s identity and demonstrates the enduring strength of Uganda’s alumni-sport culture.
