Chelsea surrendered an early lead and needed a second-half equaliser to rescue a 2-2 Premier League draw against unbeaten Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Morgan Rogers put the hosts ahead after seven minutes, but Mohamed Belloumi scored twice within six first-half minutes to turn the match around. Joao Pedro levelled after the break, although both teams later missed excellent opportunities to claim victory.

Rogers Completes Rapid Chelsea Counterattack

Chelsea began confidently and broke Hull’s resistance after only seven minutes. The move started after the hosts defended a corner and quickly transitioned towards the opposite end.

Palmer found Joao Pedro, who turned and moved possession to Rogers. The attacker shifted the ball onto his left foot and beat goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis at the near post.

It was the first league goal Hull had conceded during the campaign. Chelsea appeared capable of adding another, with Neto forcing Tzolakis into a save after another sharp attack.

The visitors remained compact and looked to create opportunities through direct passes and energetic forward runs. Their approach soon exposed Chelsea’s weakness when defending long balls and second phases.

Belloumi Punishes Chelsea Mistakes

Hull equalised in the 28th minute after Ryan Giles chased a long clearance and hooked the ball into Chelsea’s penalty area. Hato misjudged its flight and bounce, allowing Belloumi to finish beyond Martinez.

The goal changed the momentum, and Hull completed a remarkable turnaround six minutes later. Colwill initially blocked Lewie Coyle’s shot before Semi Ajayi struck the crossbar from the resulting corner.

The rebound reached Oli McBurnie, who supplied Belloumi near the edge of the area. His shot took a deflection off Colwill and beat Martinez, giving Hull a 2-1 half-time advantage.

Joao Pedro Restores Parity

Alonso replaced Hato with Pep Chavarria at half-time, and Chelsea resumed with more intensity. James twice threatened from free-kicks, with Tzolakis producing an excellent fingertip save to push one effort onto the post.

Hull should have increased their lead in the 61st minute. Martinez initially spilled a powerful attempt but recovered brilliantly to deny McBurnie from close range.

That intervention proved important when Chelsea equalised five minutes later. Palmer drove towards the byline and delivered a low cross slightly behind Joao Pedro. The Brazilian adjusted his body before firing a left-footed finish into the roof of the net.

Chelsea pressed for a winner and created their best late chance through Rogers. Palmer released him into a promising position, but the goalscorer directed his effort too close to Tzolakis.

Hull nearly won the contest themselves. Mohamed-Ali Cho met a cross from close range in the 87th minute, only for Martinez to make another vital save. Palmer then sent the final free-kick over the crossbar.

Alonso Demands Defensive Improvement

Alonso accepted that the match provided entertainment but would have preferred a controlled victory. He criticised the softness of Hull’s first goal and Chelsea’s failure to protect their early advantage.

The manager said his side were attacking better than they were defending. Chelsea have conceded in 20 consecutive Premier League matches, while Alonso’s first six games in charge have produced 12 goals against them, according to the Sky Sports match analysis.

Chavarria delivered a similar assessment after his fourth league appearance for the club. The full-back praised Chelsea’s second-half energy but stressed that the players must work hard in training to solve their defensive problems.

Hull Demonstrate Premier League Quality

Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic described the result as significant and praised his team’s performance in a demanding match. His players did more than sit deep and survive.

Belloumi punished Chelsea decisively, Tzolakis made several important saves, and Hull continued creating chances after taking the lead. Martinez’s interventions against McBurnie and Cho ultimately prevented the visitors from collecting three points.

Their unbeaten record reflects organisation, confidence and an ability to adapt. Taking a point at Stamford Bridge should strengthen belief that the Tigers can compete effectively against established Premier League opponents.

Uganda Supporters and Bangbet Interest

Chelsea have a passionate following across Kampala, Jinja, Gulu, Mbarara and the rest of Uganda. Supporters enjoyed four goals and end-to-end football, but the performance offered another reminder that attacking strength cannot continually compensate for defensive mistakes.

Conclusion

Chelsea’s attacking talent again produced goals, but preventable defensive errors denied them victory. Hull deserved their point after responding fearlessly to Rogers’ opener and threatening until the closing minutes. Alonso now has a clear priority: make Chelsea more secure without weakening the creativity that brought them back into this absorbing contest.
