Entebbe UPPC came from behind to beat 10-man UPDF 2-1 and maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.

Entebbe UPPC maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season by recovering from a goal down to defeat 10-man UPDF 2-1 at Hamz Stadium.

Derrick Taremwa put UPDF ahead in the first half, but Thomas Ochungo equalised before substitute Ambrose Kigozi converted the decisive second-half penalty. Swaibu Kalule was later sent off as the Printers protected their advantage and collected another three points.

The result gave Entebbe UPPC six points from two matches, following their 1-0 victory over defending champions Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Taremwa Gives UPDF the Lead

UPDF made the stronger start and found their reward in the 20th minute. Robert Kitabalwa delivered an inviting corner into the penalty area, where Taremwa rose to guide a well-taken header beyond goalkeeper Denis Otim.

However, the Printers refused to lose their composure. Abdallah Mubiru’s team gradually gained control, pushed their full-backs higher and began creating openings from set pieces and wide positions.

Thomas Ochungo Restores Parity

Entebbe UPPC’s response arrived through left back Ochungo. Ibrahim Mugulusi delivered a dangerous free kick into the area, and Ochungo converted to bring the hosts level.

The equaliser changed the rhythm of the contest and increased the pressure on the UPDF defence. Entebbe UPPC nearly completed the turnaround before halftime when Steven Munguchi supplied a cutback for Sharifu Ssengendo, but the forward headed over from a promising position.

That miss kept the score at 1-1 at the interval. Nevertheless, the hosts had recovered from their difficult start and entered the second half with growing confidence.

Kigozi Makes an Immediate Impact

Mubiru’s substitutions proved decisive after the restart. Ambrose Kigozi was introduced to add fresh energy to Entebbe UPPC’s attack and eventually became the match winner.

With approximately 20 minutes remaining, Kigozi was fouled inside the penalty area by UPDF defender Aggrey Kirya. The substitute assumed responsibility for the resulting penalty and converted to put the Printers 2-1 ahead.

Kalule Red Card Weakens UPDF

UPDF’s attempt to recover suffered another setback in the 75th minute when Kalule was dismissed for a professional foul on Congolese midfielder Reich Triomphe Kokolo.

The red card left the visitors with ten players and created more room for Entebbe UPPC to attack. Kokolo almost added a third goal when he raced through for a one on one opportunity, but UPDF goalkeeper Richard Anyama produced an important save.

Entebbe UPPC then managed the closing stages carefully. The hosts avoided unnecessary risks, protected the central areas and ensured UPDF could not create the clear chance required to rescue a point.

The Kawowo Sports match report confirmed the comeback, key scorers and Kalule’s dismissal, while the TNT Sports match centre provides the fixture’s statistical record.

Standout Performers

Ochungo delivered at both ends of the pitch, supporting the attack from left-back and scoring the goal that restored Entebbe UPPC’s belief. Mugulusi’s accurate free-kick created the equaliser and highlighted his importance on set pieces.

Kigozi supplied the decisive intervention from the bench, while Kokolo’s movement and energy repeatedly troubled UPDF. His run drew the professional foul that resulted in Kalule’s dismissal.

For UPDF, Taremwa provided an early attacking threat, Kitabalwa registered the assist, and Anyama’s late save prevented the scoreline from becoming more comfortable for the hosts.

What the Result Means

Entebbe UPPC’s opening victories over Vipers and UPDF represent an outstanding beginning. The Printers have already shown two valuable qualities: the discipline to defend a narrow lead at Kitende and the resilience to recover after falling behind at Hamz Stadium.

Mubiru will also be encouraged that different players have delivered decisive contributions across the two matches.

UPDF can take positives from their first-half organisation and Taremwa’s finish. However, conceding from a set piece, giving away a penalty and receiving a red card proved costly. Hussein Mbalangu must improve his team’s discipline and management of decisive moments.

Take-Home Verdict

Entebbe UPPC’s 2-1 victory was built on composure, effective set pieces and a match-changing substitute. The Printers did not panic after Taremwa’s opener; Ochungo restored parity before Kigozi completed the comeback.

Their perfect start is one of the early stories of the new UPL season. UPDF were competitive, but their penalty concession and red card turned a promising performance into defeat. Entebbe UPPC leave Hamz Stadium with maximum points, growing confidence and further evidence that they can compete strongly in the top flight.
