Lamine Yamal and Raphinha scored twice each as Barcelona recovered from an early setback to defeat Rayo Vallecano 5-2 in an entertaining La Liga encounter at Spotify Camp Nou.

Sergio Camello twice found the net for Rayo, but Barcelona’s attacking quality eventually overwhelmed the visitors. Florian Lejeune’s own goal completed the scoring for Hansi Flick’s side, who maintained their perfect record after three league matches.

The result moved Barcelona back to the top of La Liga with nine points, ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference.

Rayo Vallecano Surprise Barcelona

Barcelona started confidently, with Yamal and Raphinha immediately testing Rayo’s defensive organisation. However, the visitors stunned the home supporters by opening the scoring in the 12th minute.

Álvaro García escaped down the left before delivering a cutback for Camello, who reached the ball ahead of Andreas Christensen and beat Joan García. It was Barcelona’s first league goal conceded this season.

The setback produced a powerful response. Raphinha equalised in the 19th minute, cutting inside Pathé Ciss before driving a low shot across goalkeeper Dani Cárdenas.

Only two minutes later, Yamal completed the turnaround spectacularly. The winger collected possession outside the penalty area and curled a superb left-footed effort into the top corner.

The goal was Yamal’s 50th for Barcelona’s senior team, making him the youngest player in the club’s history to reach the milestone. Barcelona consequently entered halftime with a 2-1 advantage.

Barcelona Take Control After Halftime

Barcelona extended their lead six minutes after the restart. Anthony Gordon broke into space and sent a dangerous low delivery across goal, which Lejeune accidentally turned into his own net.

Rayo refused to surrender. Camello scored his second goal in the 59th minute, meeting a corner at the near post and directing his header beyond Joan García to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

With the contest becoming uncomfortable, Barcelona required another moment of attacking quality. Gordon provided it by controlling Jules Koundé’s forward pass and producing an intelligent backheel into Raphinha’s path. The Brazilian finished confidently in the 71st minute to restore the two-goal cushion.

Yamal completed the scoring in the 90th minute, opening his body on the edge of the area and guiding another precise left-footed finish inside the post.

Barcelona vs Rayo Vallecano Statistics

Yamal, Raphinha and Gordon Lead the Attack

Yamal’s double demonstrated his growing importance to Barcelona. Beyond reaching 50 senior goals, the 19-year-old repeatedly troubled Rayo with his close control, movement and willingness to attack from the right.

Raphinha was equally influential. His two goals took him to five in the opening three league matches and underlined his effectiveness in a central attacking role.

Gordon did not score, but his direct running helped force Lejeune’s own goal before his clever backheel created Raphinha’s second. Flick praised the pace and decisiveness of his attacking trio after the match, according to Barcelona’s official website.

Defensive Warning for Hansi Flick

Despite the emphatic scoreline, Barcelona were not completely secure. Camello exposed gaps in their defence twice, while Rayo registered five shots on target despite having only 31 percent possession.

Those defensive moments provide Flick with areas to address before tougher domestic and European assignments. Barcelona’s ability to respond immediately, however, showed the confidence running through the team.

What the Victory Means for Ugandan Barcelona Fans

The match began at 10:30 p.m. Uganda time, giving Barcelona supporters in Kampala, Jinja, Gulu, Mbarara and other parts of the country a seven-goal spectacle.

Ugandan fans have long followed Barcelona because of the club’s attacking football and commitment to developing young players. Yamal’s emergence is particularly inspiring for young footballers in Uganda, demonstrating how technical development, confidence and first-team opportunities can accelerate a player’s progress.

Verdict

Barcelona’s 5-2 victory combined attacking brilliance with a reminder that defensive improvement is still necessary. Yamal and Raphinha supplied four outstanding goals, while Gordon connected the attack impressively. Three victories from three matches represent an ideal start, but Flick will know that greater defensive control will be essential as the season becomes more demanding.
