Uganda struggled to impose its rhythm, giving the West Africans encouragement.

The Lady Volleyball Cranes responded by improving their organisation and reducing avoidable errors. Better service pressure and greater composure allowed Uganda to close the gap, overtake Senegal and claim the opening frame 25-21.

That comeback changed the contest. Senegal’s confidence fell as Uganda settled into a controlled performance.

Strong Serving Decides Second Set

Uganda carried its momentum into the second set and established control from the opening rallies. Soita’s players served aggressively, disrupting Senegal’s reception and making it difficult for their opponents to construct consistent attacks.

Uganda consequently defended more comfortably and converted scoring opportunities at the net. Uganda pulled away to win 25-15, moving within one set of victory.

The ten-point margin reflected Uganda’s authority during this section of the match. It also demonstrated the team’s ability to respond tactically after encountering problems in the opening set.

Catherine Ainembabazi in action for Uganda’s Lady Volleyball Cranes during the African Nations Championship. The Lady Volleyball Cranes remained composed, continued targeting Senegal’s reception, and protected their advantage effectively.

Senegal struggled to produce the sustained run required to force a fourth set. Uganda eventually completed the victory 25-16, sealing a 3-0 result and an ideal beginning to the group stage.

The straight-sets success was valuable because tournament progression can be influenced by matches won, sets and points ratios. Avoiding a fourth or fifth set strengthened Uganda’s early Group B position.

Joan Tushemereirwe Leads Uganda’s Attack

Tushemereirwe’s 17-point contribution made her the match’s standout Ugandan performer. The opposite hitter combined power with consistency and offered a reliable scoring option whenever Uganda needed to halt Senegal’s momentum.

Her performance continued the form that earned her the Most Valuable Player and Best Opposite Hitter awards during the Zone V qualifiers in Kampala. Uganda secured championship qualification by finishing that tournament unbeaten and defeating South Sudan 3-0 in the decisive match.

Captain Catherine Ainembabazi also provides experience within a squad combining established campaigners and emerging players. That balance will be important as the opposition becomes stronger later in the competition.

What the Victory Means for Uganda

Uganda share Group B with Senegal, Burkina Faso and Egypt. The opening win gives Soita’s team an important platform, but qualification has not yet been secured. Burkina Faso present the next challenge before a potentially decisive meeting with Egypt.

The championship features 16 national teams and is being staged at Kasarani Indoor Arena and Ulinzi Sports Complex. According to the FIVB tournament guide, the champions qualify directly for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, while the top three teams secure places at the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup.

Uganda finished eighth at the previous continental championship in 2023. Starting with a convincing victory strengthens belief that the squad can improve on that position and compete more consistently against Africa’s leading volleyball nations.

Follow Ugandan Volleyball With Bangbet Uganda

Ugandans aged 25 and above can visit Bangbet Uganda to check markets available for selected volleyball fixtures. Their recovery in the first set, dominant serving and composed finish demonstrated both resilience and tactical control.

More demanding assignments remain, but the 3-0 victory over Senegal gives Uganda momentum, maximum points and confidence.
