Barcelona beat Real Betis 5–2 with five different scorers. Read the goals, Bernal red card, match statistics, injury updates, and Uganda context.

Barcelona extended their perfect LaLiga start with a 5–2 victory over Real Betis at La Cartuja on Saturday, 17th October, emerging from a dramatic contest with nine wins from nine matches.

Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo scored for Hansi Flick’s side. Valentin Gomez and Ez Abde replied for Betis, whose resistance weakened after Facundo Bernal’s dismissal.

Barcelona’s official match report confirms another emphatic result. For Ugandan supporters, the scoreline offered excitement, although the route to victory was considerably less comfortable than a three-goal margin suggests.

Yamal Opens the Scoring in Style

Yamal supplied the first breakthrough after 10 minutes, collecting possession outside the penalty area before creating room for a curling finish.

Betis recovered through Gomez, who headed in from Pablo Fornals’ delivery following a corner.

Rodri restored Barcelona’s advantage before halftime, heading home from Fermin Lopez’s cross after a corner. The goal was his first for the club.

However, Betis’ equaliser also showed that the visitors could be challenged when deliveries reached dangerous areas.

Lo Celso’s Disallowed Goal Adds Drama

The first half nearly contained another spectacular equaliser.

Giovani Lo Celso struck a long-range volley past Joan Garcia, prompting celebrations before VAR intervened. The goal was disallowed because of a handball by Cucho Hernandez earlier in the move.

That decision preserved the visitors’ lead at an important moment. Betis had demonstrated enough attacking quality to keep the contest competitive, and Barcelona still needed to establish a more secure position after the interval.

Goals and a Red Card Change the Contest

Gabriel Jesus extended Barcelona’s lead early in the second half, finishing after Yamal supplied the decisive pass.

Betis responded through Abde, who raced through and scored to reduce the deficit to 3–2.

The momentum then shifted again. Bernal received a straight red card for violent conduct following an incident involving Yamal.

LaLiga’s official event record confirms the dismissal came after Abde’s goal. Barcelona were already ahead, but Betis now had to pursue an equaliser with 10 players.

Eric Garcia subsequently finished from close range after Pau Cubarsi’s intervention, before Olmo added Barcelona’s fifth with a shot from outside the area.

Real Betis vs Barcelona: Match Statistics

Sky Sports’ match statistics underline Barcelona’s attacking superiority across the completed game.

Statistic
Real Betis
Barcelona

Possession
30.7%
69.3%

Total shots
6
18

Red cards
1
0

Barcelona attempted three times as many shots and twice as many on target.

However, Betis put five of their six attempts on target. Their threat therefore remained relevant even while Barcelona enjoyed more possession.

The match developed under different numerical conditions, so the overall totals should not erase how competitive it remained at 3–2.

Nine Wins Bring Barcelona Alongside History

Barcelona’s record announcement confirms they have matched Real Madrid’s nine consecutive victories at the beginning of the 1968/69 league campaign.

Flick’s side have scored 39 goals and conceded nine across their opening nine LaLiga matches, collecting all 27 available points.

The result also extended their winning start across all competitions to 11 games.

Barcelona are producing repeated attacking returns while maintaining a winning rhythm across domestic and European fixtures.

Our Galatasaray 1–4 Barcelona report covers the preceding Champions League success, another away match in which the team found multiple scoring solutions.

Five Scorers Strengthen Flick’s Options

The distribution of goals is another encouraging feature.

Yamal supplied individual quality and an assist, while Barcelona also benefited from midfield involvement, a striker’s finish, a defender’s contribution and Olmo’s shooting.

That variety makes opponents solve several problems. Restricting one forward does not necessarily remove the threat from supporting runners or set pieces.

Our Real Betis vs Barcelona preview identified the importance of movement and coordinated attacking play before kickoff.

The completed match supplied examples of both, although the goals conceded remain part of the assessment. Barcelona’s attack earned the headlines; their defensive concentration still deserves attention.

Injury Updates Temper the Celebration

Barcelona subsequently confirmed Eric Garcia suffered a right-thigh injury, with an estimated recovery period of three to four weeks.

The club’s medical update also states that Jules Kounde has a left-ankle sprain and will miss the PSG match. His availability for the Clasico depends on his recovery.

For supporters assessing upcoming fixtures, the absences matter alongside Barcelona’s scoring form. Defensive changes can affect partnerships, distribution and the options available from the bench, even when the squad is playing confidently.

What It Means for Ugandan Supporters

For Barcelona fans in Kampala, Jinja, Gulu and Mbarara, this performance delivered plenty for the weekend conversation: Yamal’s opener, five different scorers and a record-equalling league start.

It also provided a useful reminder to examine the match sequence. Betis were within one goal before Bernal’s red card changed their task.

Supporters revisiting the action can use SuperSport’s match highlights, subject to regional access.

The next challenge is sustaining attacking fluency while adapting to defensive absences. A perfect record creates confidence, but every new opponent still demands preparation.
