Barcelona came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 as Lamine Yamal supplied two assists in a dominant Champions League performance.

Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the season by recovering from a goal down to defeat Galatasaray 4-1 in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League contest at RAMS Park.

Alexey Batrakov gave Galatasaray a surprise lead in the 28th minute before João Cancelo equalised shortly before half-time. Fermín López and Anthony Gordon then scored three minutes apart after the restart, with Lamine Yamal assisting both goals.

Substitute Karim Adeyemi completed the victory in the 65th minute as Barcelona silenced the intimidating Istanbul crowd and collected their second Champions League win of the campaign.

The result moved Hansi Flick’s team to six points and first position in the provisional league-phase standings, with a goal difference of plus seven. Galatasaray remain without a point after two matches.

Barcelona control before Batrakov breakthrough

Barcelona appeared comfortable during the opening stages despite the intense home atmosphere.

Gordon and Cancelo tested Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır, while Dani Olmo directed a header narrowly wide. Pedri controlled possession from midfield as Barcelona attempted to create openings through Yamal on the right.

The visitors’ failure to convert their early pressure allowed Galatasaray to remain competitive. The Turkish champions then punished Barcelona with a direct counterattack in the 28th minute.

Rafael Leão accelerated into space before cutting the ball back for Batrakov. His effort took a deflection off Cancelo and beat Joan García.

The goal changed the atmosphere and briefly unsettled Barcelona. Victor Osimhen appeared to have doubled Galatasaray’s advantage following a corner, but a VAR review confirmed that the striker had moved into an offside position.

That decision proved important because Barcelona soon recovered their composure.

Cancelo restores Barcelona’s confidence

Barcelona equalised two minutes before half-time through Cancelo.

Olmo located the Portuguese full-back inside the penalty area, and Cancelo directed an excellent finish into the far corner. It was an appropriate response from a player whose earlier deflection had helped Batrakov’s shot beat García.

The goal ensured Barcelona entered the interval level rather than chasing the contest. It also shifted the momentum away from Galatasaray after the home side’s energetic ten-minute spell.

Flick’s half-time instructions produced an immediate improvement. Barcelona moved the ball more quickly, pressed Galatasaray higher and gave Yamal greater freedom to isolate defenders.

Yamal creates two goals in three minutes

The decisive period began in the 50th minute.

Yamal received possession on the right and delivered a curling cross towards Fermín. The midfielder timed his movement perfectly and headed beyond Çakır to complete Barcelona’s comeback.

Only three minutes later, Yamal created another goal. He dribbled into the penalty area, maintained control following a fortunate rebound and supplied Gordon, who finished low past the goalkeeper.

The two assists transformed a potentially difficult away match into a commanding Barcelona advantage.

Yamal did not score, but his overall influence earned him UEFA’s Player of the Match award. He completed the full 90 minutes, attempted five shots, supplied two assists and recorded a top speed of 32 kilometres per hour.

His performance illustrated why goals alone do not measure an attacker’s importance. Galatasaray struggled to control his movement, close dribbling, and ability to deliver the final pass.

Adeyemi completes Barcelona rout

Flick strengthened his attack by introducing Adeyemi, and the substitute required little time to influence the score.

The German international struck in the 65th minute, finishing first-time to make it 4-1 and end Galatasaray’s hopes of recovering.

Adeyemi almost earned a penalty during the closing stages when he went down under defensive pressure, while Gabriel Jesus also received an opportunity to add a fifth. At the other end, García denied attempts from Osimhen and Leroy Sané.

The goalkeeper’s interventions preserved Barcelona’s three-goal advantage and ensured the second half remained a complete demonstration of the visitors’ attacking control.

Galatasaray’s opening goal demonstrated the potential danger of Barcelona’s high defensive line. However, the home side could not sustain enough pressure to exploit it consistently.

Barcelona extend their perfect season

Barcelona have now won all ten of their competitive matches this season. They have scored 34 La Liga goals and nine more across their opening two Champions League fixtures.

Their European campaign began with a 5-1 victory over Feyenoord before the four-goal performance in Istanbul. Six points and a plus-seven goal difference place Flick’s team at the top of the provisional Champions League standings.

The Galatasaray result also continued Barcelona’s impressive domestic momentum. Gordon scored his first goal for the club during the recent 3-0 victory over Getafe, while Raphinha’s hat-trick inspired a 3-1 comeback against Sevilla.

Barcelona had earlier demonstrated similar attacking depth in their 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano, when Yamal and Raphinha scored twice each.

Flick’s next challenge is managing his players through an increasingly demanding schedule. Barcelona visit Real Betis in La Liga before facing Paris Saint-Germain in their next Champions League fixture.

What the result means for Ugandan supporters

Barcelona have a substantial following throughout Uganda, and supporters watching the 10:00 p.m. EAT kick-off witnessed another demonstration of the team’s attacking variety.

Yamal’s two assists will dominate much of the discussion in Kampala, Jinja, Mbarara, Gulu and other football communities. The winger influenced the result without scoring, creating opportunities through technical ability and intelligent decision-making.

Gordon’s goal was also significant. After opening his Barcelona account against Getafe, he scored his first Champions League goal for the club in Istanbul.

For Ugandan coaches and young footballers, Barcelona’s second-half reaction offered a useful lesson. The team did not abandon its approach after conceding. Instead, it increased its passing speed, improved its pressing and found space through coordinated movement.
