For Ugandan viewers, the 9:45 p.m. EAT kick-off offered familiar European football names. Wales’ collective energy, however, outweighed Norway’s individual star power.

Bobb gives Norway the early advantage

Bellamy made five changes after the 2-0 defeat in Denmark, introducing Cabango, Koumas, Cullen, Dasilva and Jordan James. Norway started Haaland and captain Ødegaard.

Norway struck after 11 minutes when Ødegaard released Bobb with an accurate through-ball and the winger beat Danny Ward. Wales responded with pace and stronger pressure.

Sorba Thomas repeatedly troubled Norway from the left. Cullen forced a close-range save from Ørjan Nyland in the 34th minute, while Ethan Ampadu shot over.

The equaliser arrived in the 38th minute. Wales recovered possession, Koumas advanced the attack, and Thomas delivered a low cross. James reached it first and scored Wales’ opening goal of the campaign.

Red card changes the second half

Seconds after the restart, James accelerated towards goal, and Heggem pulled him down near the penalty area. Referee Alejandro Hernández showed a straight red card in the 46th minute.

Williams drove the resulting free-kick beyond Nyland two minutes later. Norway had lost a defender and surrendered their lead in one decisive burst.

Wales had chances to extend their lead. Nyland denied another Thomas-James combination, while Thomas narrowly missed before Cullen and substitute Josh Sheehan tested him.

How Wales kept Haaland quiet

Haaland arrived with 65 international goals and three in this Nations League campaign. Wales kept Davies and Cabango close, contested crosses and restricted central service.

His first clear opportunity came around the 59th minute, but pressure from Davies helped send the header over. Another header went directly at Ward as Wales protected their penalty area.

Substitute Jørgen Strand Larsen curled narrowly wide late on. Wales missed a third goal, but their organisation kept Norway from equalising.

Players who shaped the result

Thomas was Wales’ consistent outlet. His direct running stretched Norway’s right side, and his low delivery created James’ equaliser. James added the finish, repeatedly attacked space behind the defence and won the foul that led to Heggem’s dismissal.

Williams combined defensive work with the winning moment. His free-kick stayed low and accurate, leaving Nyland unable to reach it. Davies and Cabango also deserve credit for denying Haaland central positions, especially when Norway searched for a late equaliser.

Ward remained composed behind them, while Ampadu helped Wales protect transitions and sustain pressure through midfield.

What the result means for Group A4

Wales opened with defeats in Portugal and Denmark. This comeback lifted Bellamy’s squad level with Norway and Denmark on three points, while Portugal led after three victories.

The win showed why promotion matters. Beating a Norway side containing Haaland, Ødegaard and Bobb proved Wales can compete when their pressing, spacing and intensity work together.

Wales next host Denmark on Sunday, 4 October. Recovery matters after an energetic performance and with several squad members unavailable.

Uganda football interest

Ugandan fans had familiar storylines: Haaland and Bobb represent Manchester City, while Ødegaard captains Arsenal. The result also showed that even a famous forward needs consistent service.

Verdict

Wales responded positively after Bobb’s opener. Thomas supplied width, James scored and drew the decisive foul, while Williams converted the free-kick. Heggem’s dismissal changed the balance, but Wales still controlled the advantage.

For Bellamy, the victory restored belief, produced Wales’ first League A win and showed that younger players could execute an aggressive plan against strong opponents.
