Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways in the UEFA Champions League with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sabah at the Baku Olympic Stadium. Serhou Guirassy scored twice to end Dortmund’s three-match winless streak across all competitions.

The German giants faced a determined Sabah side, but Guirassy’s clinical finishing ultimately made the difference in an entertaining European encounter.

Dortmund Strike Early Through Guirassy

Following a frustrating goalless Bundesliga draw against Union Berlin, Borussia Dortmund entered the contest determined to rediscover their attacking rhythm.

Fabio Silva immediately threatened Sabah’s defense, forcing goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov into two important saves. Guirassy also missed an early opportunity before making amends in the 10th minute.

The striker reacted quickest after Pokatilov spilled Felix Nmecha’s powerful effort, calmly converting the rebound to give Dortmund a 1-0 advantage.

Dortmund continued pressing, with Pokatilov producing an impressive double save to deny Joey Veerman’s free-kick and Carney Chukwuemeka’s follow-up.

Sabah Fight Back to Level Before Half-Time

Despite Dortmund’s dominance, Sabah refused to surrender.

Joy-Lance Mickels briefly celebrated what looked like a spectacular equalizer after curling the ball into the top corner. However, the goal was ruled out for a narrow offside.

Sabah’s persistence eventually paid off when Aden McCarthy headed home Tymoteusz Puchacz’s free-kick, scoring his first goal for the club.

The equalizer energized the hosts, and Kaheem Parris soon tested Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Both teams entered half-time level at 1-1, setting up an intriguing second half.

Guirassy Scores Again to Seal Dortmund’s Victory

Dortmund emerged from the break with renewed attacking intent, and Guirassy soon restored their advantage.

Veerman delivered an excellent cross towards the back post, where the striker connected with a composed side-foot volley to make it 2-1.

The goal marked Guirassy’s fourth Champions League strike of the 2026/27 campaign, matching his entire tally from the previous season.

Sabah continued searching for another equalizer, with Mickels testing Kobel from distance.

Both sides squandered late opportunities. Silva fired wide when through on goal, while Sabah substitute Orphe Mbina also failed to convert a promising chance.

Dortmund ultimately protected their narrow lead until the final whistle.
