In a match worthy of the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League, Luis Enrique’s side combined relentless pressing, quick passing and devastating attacking movement to overcome a talented Barcelona team.

Goals from Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernández, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz secured PSG’s third victory from three Champions League matches. Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal scored for Barcelona, but the visitors could not contain the defending champions during a frantic second half.

PSG began aggressively and almost opened the scoring inside two minutes when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post.

Barcelona gradually found their rhythm, with Pedri helping the visitors play through PSG’s pressure. Raphinha also tested Matvey Safonov as Hansi Flick’s men showed they had not travelled to Paris simply to defend.

However, the breakthrough arrived in the 38th minute. Barcelona failed to clear their defensive area, allowing Désiré Doué to collect the loose ball, create space and fire a composed finish beyond Joan García.

The goal rewarded PSG’s intensity and capped an impressive first-half performance from Doué. The young French attacker repeatedly troubled Barcelona with his close control, intelligent positioning and fearless running.

Barcelona produced a positive response after the interval and equalised through Xavi Espart in the 55th minute. The goal temporarily changed the atmosphere inside the Parc des Princes and gave the visitors renewed confidence.

PSG, however, refused to lose control.

In the 72nd minute, Lucas Hernández powered home a header from Doué’s corner to restore the hosts’ advantage. Former Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, who had replaced the injured Ousmane Dembélé, had struck the post shortly before the goal.

Barcelona responded again. Lamine Yamal made it 2-2 in the 79th minute, seemingly setting up a dramatic finish between two of Europe’s strongest attacking teams.

Unfortunately for Flick, Barcelona’s celebrations lasted only two minutes.

PSG immediately moved forward after conceding and restored their lead through Vitinha in the 81st minute. The Portuguese midfielder found space inside the box and punished Barcelona before the visitors could reorganise.

Five minutes later, Fabián Ruiz scored PSG’s fourth goal, completing another major European victory for Luis Enrique’s side.

The statistics reflected PSG’s attacking superiority. Although Barcelona recorded slightly more possession, PSG produced 14 shots on target compared with Barcelona’s five and generated approximately 3.73 expected goals. Goalkeeper Joan García made ten saves, preventing an even heavier defeat.

This was much more than another league-phase victory. It was a warning to every Champions League contender.

Having already defeated Manchester City 4-2, PSG have now scored four goals against Barcelona while maintaining a perfect European record. They sit on nine points after three matches, with a goal difference of plus nine.

Luis Enrique has transformed PSG from a collection of expensive individuals into an organised, aggressive and tactically flexible team. His players press together, rotate positions naturally and maintain their intensity even after substitutions.

After winning consecutive Champions League titles, PSG are chasing a historic third European crown in a row. Real Madrid were the last team to achieve a Champions League three-peat, winning the tournament in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

On the evidence of this performance, PSG have the quality, depth and mentality to match that achievement.

Barcelona competed well for long periods, but their defensive structure weakened as the contest progressed. Flick admitted PSG had been the better team and suggested his players were affected by a demanding schedule and the approaching El Clásico.

The defeat ended Barcelona’s perfect start to the 2026/27 season. However, goals from Espart and Yamal demonstrated that the Catalans possess enough attacking quality to trouble Europe’s elite.

Barcelona must now improve defensively and manage games more effectively when facing high-intensity opponents. PSG’s ability to score twice shortly after Yamal’s equaliser exposed a lack of concentration at the most important moment.

PSG’s victory came at a possible cost. Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos were all forced off with physical problems.

Kvaratskhelia’s condition appeared particularly concerning because he required assistance when leaving the pitch. Further medical assessment will determine the severity of the injury, so reports of a possible ACL problem should not be treated as confirmed until PSG releases an official update.

Désiré Doué Sets the Tone for PSG
