Manchester United were denied a dramatic Premier League victory after Dominic Solanke scored in added time to secure a 1–1 draw for ten-man Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Bryan Mbeumo appeared to have won the match for Manchester United when he broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute. Tottenham’s situation became even more difficult five minutes later when Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a red card following a heated confrontation involving Luke Shaw.

Despite playing the closing stages with ten men, Tottenham refused to surrender. Solanke produced the decisive moment in the 92nd minute, scoring a last-gasp equaliser to silence Old Trafford and rescue a valuable point for Spurs.

Manchester United and Tottenham Battle at Old Trafford

Manchester United entered the match determined to use their home advantage and secure an important Premier League victory. Tottenham, however, matched the hosts’ intensity and made it difficult for them to take complete control of the contest.

Both teams competed aggressively in midfield, with tackles flying in and neither side willing to give up possession easily. The match remained goalless for more than 70 minutes as the two defences successfully limited clear scoring opportunities.

United continued to apply pressure as the second half progressed, while Tottenham remained dangerous whenever they managed to move forward. With the game entering its final stages, one decisive goal appeared likely to settle the encounter.

Bryan Mbeumo Opens the Scoring for Manchester United

Manchester United finally found the breakthrough in the 73rd minute through Mbeumo.

The forward delivered the finish United had been searching for, sending the Old Trafford crowd into celebration and placing the home side in a strong position to collect all three points.

Mbeumo’s goal appeared to reward United for their persistence. With less than 20 minutes remaining, the hosts needed to maintain their concentration, control possession and prevent Tottenham from creating a late opportunity.

The situation became even more favourable for United when Tottenham were reduced to ten players shortly after the opening goal.

Rodrigo Bentancur Sent Off After Heated Incident

Tempers flared in the 78th minute as Shaw and Bentancur became involved in a heated confrontation.

Bentancur was subsequently shown a red card, leaving Tottenham to complete the match with ten men. The dismissal completely changed the tactical situation and appeared to push the contest further in Manchester United’s favour.

Spurs were now trailing away from home while operating with a numerical disadvantage. United had an opportunity to dominate the closing stages, protect their lead and potentially score a second goal.

However, Tottenham remained organised and continued searching for an equaliser. Rather than accepting defeat, the visitors showed impressive resilience and kept the match alive until the final seconds.

Dominic Solanke Scores a Last-Gasp Equaliser

Tottenham’s determination was rewarded in the 92nd minute when Solanke scored the equaliser.

With Manchester United only moments away from victory, Solanke produced the decisive finish to make it 1–1. The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Tottenham players and supporters as the ten-man visitors completed an impressive late comeback.

Solanke’s intervention completely changed the mood inside Old Trafford. Spurs celebrated what felt like a victory, while United were left frustrated after surrendering their lead despite having an extra player.

The equaliser highlighted Tottenham’s fighting spirit. Losing Bentancur could easily have ended their hopes of earning anything from the match, but the visitors continued believing that one final opportunity would arrive.

When that chance came, Solanke made it count.

Manchester United Left Frustrated by Late Collapse

For Manchester United, the result will feel like a major missed opportunity.

Mbeumo’s goal and Bentancur’s dismissal had given the Red Devils control of the match. United needed to manage the remaining minutes carefully, retain possession and prevent Tottenham from finding space near their penalty area.

Instead, the hosts allowed ten-man Spurs to create one final scoring opportunity.

The late goal once again demonstrated the importance of concentration and game management in the Premier League. A team cannot afford to switch off before the final whistle, particularly against an opponent with Tottenham’s attacking quality.

Mbeumo produced an important performance and looked set to become United’s match-winner, but Solanke’s late equaliser meant his goal was not enough to secure victory.

Ten-Man Tottenham Show Impressive Character

Although Tottenham did not win the match, the manner in which they earned the draw will provide plenty of encouragement.

Spurs were behind, playing at Old Trafford and operating with ten men. However, they remained disciplined, continued competing and refused to accept defeat.

Solanke will receive much of the praise for scoring the equaliser, but Tottenham’s collective character kept them in the game. Every player had to work harder after Bentancur’s dismissal, and their persistence eventually produced a valuable point.

The final whistle confirmed a 1–1 draw: disappointment for Manchester United, relief for Tottenham and another unforgettable Premier League finish at Old Trafford.
