Nicolas Jackson scored twice as Aston Villa stunned Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park, ending the visitors’ perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League season. Despite Erling Haaland’s equalizer, Unai Emery’s side held firm to secure their first home league victory of the campaign and extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches across all competitions.

Jackson Strikes Early to Shock Manchester City

Manchester City arrived at Villa Park with seven consecutive Premier League wins, but Aston Villa wasted no time disrupting their momentum.

Jackson capitalized on a defensive mistake by Marc Guéhi, surged into the penalty area, beat Elliott Anderson and unleashed a powerful strike into the roof of the net.

The early breakthrough electrified Villa Park and forced Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City to respond immediately.

Iliman Ndiaye nearly restored parity with a curling left-footed effort, but Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki produced an outstanding diving save.

City continued pressing, with Rayan Cherki testing Suzuki after excellent work from Jérémy Doku. Ndiaye then came agonizingly close to equalizing when another curling effort struck the post.

Despite City’s growing dominance, Aston Villa went into half-time with a precious 1-0 lead.

Haaland Equalizes as Manchester City Fight Back

Manchester City’s second-half resurgence began almost immediately.

Within 10 minutes of the restart, a cleverly executed free-kick gave Ndiaye a chance to deliver a dangerous cross to the far post.

Erling Haaland rose highest to head home the equalizer, bringing City level to 1-1 and seemingly shifting the momentum in the visitors’ favor.

City almost completed the turnaround when Joško Gvardiol unleashed a fierce effort, but Suzuki produced another spectacular save, tipping the ball onto the crossbar.

That intervention proved decisive.

Nicolas Jackson Completes His Brace to Seal Villa Victory

Just minutes later, Aston Villa delivered the decisive blow.

Jackson found space inside the box and fired a low shot that slipped under Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The goal restored Villa’s 2-1 lead and completed Jackson’s impressive brace.

City refused to surrender, launching wave after wave of attacks in search of another equalizer.

Suzuki denied Gvardiol from close range before Ian Maatsen made a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Haaland a late goal.

Villa’s defense survived the closing stages, securing a memorable victory that sent the home supporters into celebration.
