Barcelona continued their sensational start to the 2026/27 LaLiga season with an electrifying 5-2 victory over Real Betis, securing their ninth consecutive league win. Lamine Yamal inspired another attacking masterclass as Hansi Flick’s men maintained their perfect record ahead of a crucial UEFA Champions League encounter with PSG and the highly anticipated El Clásico.
Barcelona vs Real Betis: Seven-Goal Thriller Lights Up LaLiga
Barcelona arrived at the Estadio La Cartuja determined to preserve their flawless LaLiga campaign, and they wasted little time asserting their attacking dominance.
Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal opened the scoring with dazzling footwork to create space before curling an unstoppable effort into the top-right corner.
However, Real Betis refused to surrender easily. Pablo Fornals delivered a pinpoint cross following a recycled corner, allowing Valentin Gómez to power a header home at the far post and restore parity.
The hosts nearly completed a remarkable turnaround when Héctor Bellerín threatened Barcelona’s goal, but goalkeeper Joan García produced a magnificent save.
That intervention proved decisive.
Moments later, Rodri restored Barcelona’s advantage, rising to head home Fermín López’s corner and put the visitors back in control.
Betis thought they had equalized again with a sensational Giovani Lo Celso volley, but VAR ruled it out after Cucho Hernández handled the ball during the build-up.
Lamine Yamal and Gabriel Jesus Punish Real Betis
The second half delivered even more drama as Barcelona intensified their attacking pressure.
Fermín López almost extended the lead shortly after the restart, forcing an excellent save from Álvaro Valles.
Gabriel Jesus then had a goal disallowed for offside, but the Brazilian striker made amends within seconds.
Yamal showed exceptional vision and composure, squaring the ball for Gabriel Jesus to finish into an empty net and give Barcelona a 3-1 lead.
Real Betis responded almost immediately through former Barcelona winger Abde Ezzalzouli, who reduced the deficit to 3-2.
Just as the contest appeared destined for a dramatic finish, tensions boiled over.
Facundo Bernal Red Card Changes the Game
A heated confrontation after Betis’ second goal led to Facundo Bernal receiving a straight red card for headbutting Lamine Yamal.
The dismissal left Real Betis with ten men for about 35 minutes, significantly weakening their chances of completing a comeback.
Barcelona capitalized on their numerical advantage in the 63rd minute.
Pau Cubarsí knocked the ball into a dangerous area, where Eric García reacted quickest to stab home Barcelona’s fourth goal.
With the contest effectively settled, Hansi Flick introduced fresh legs to protect key players ahead of important upcoming fixtures.
However, Barcelona was not finished.
Dani Olmo added a fifth goal in the closing stages, completing a remarkable 5-2 win and underscoring the Catalan giants’ extraordinary attacking strength.
Barcelona Equal Historic Goalscoring Record
Barcelona’s victory delivered another impressive milestone in their outstanding campaign.
The Spanish champions have now:
- Won their opening nine LaLiga matches of the season.
- Equaled a club record by scoring at least three goals in nine consecutive matches.
- Demonstrated remarkable attacking depth, with five different goalscorers against Real Betis.
- Maintained their winning momentum ahead of crucial European and domestic fixtures.
Yamal’s influence was particularly impressive, combining individual brilliance with intelligent movement and creativity in attack.
Meanwhile, Flick’s tactical flexibility continues to make Barcelona one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking teams.
What Next for Barcelona? PSG and El Clásico Await
Barcelona’s spectacular victory provides an ideal confidence boost ahead of two potentially season-defining fixtures.
First comes a blockbuster UEFA Champions League meeting with defending European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Attention will then shift to El Clásico against Real Madrid, a contest that could significantly influence the early LaLiga title race.
For Kenyan football fans, these fixtures promise exciting entertainment as Barcelona attempt to translate their domestic dominance into success against Europe’s elite.
Nevertheless, Real Betis’s defensive vulnerabilities suggest Flick still has areas to address before facing stronger opposition.
