Manchester City Beat Brentford 3-0 to Keep Arsenal Under Pressure

Defending champions Manchester City kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a commanding 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side produced another strong home performance to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal and pile pressure on the Gunners ahead of their clash against West Ham.

The victory means City are now unbeaten in 16 home league matches this season, underlining why the Etihad remains one of the toughest venues in European football. Although the scoreline looked comfortable in the end, Brentford gave the champions a difficult challenge for long periods.

Brentford Start Brightly at the Etihad

Brentford showed no fear against the defending champions and nearly stunned the home crowd early in the match. A long throw from Michael Kayode caused panic inside the City penalty area, with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma struggling to deal with the delivery before City eventually cleared the danger off the line.

The visitors remained compact and disciplined while looking dangerous on the counterattack. Their defensive shape frustrated City in the opening stages as the home side struggled to create clear opportunities.

Doku and Haaland Lead the Attack

Manchester City slowly found its rhythm midway through the first half, largely through the brilliance of Jérémy Doku. The Belgian winger constantly attacked Brentford’s defense with his pace and skill, creating City’s first major chance when he delivered a dangerous cross that Erling Haaland headed over the bar.

Haaland soon became more involved and tested Caoimhin Kelleher with a strong header before the Brentford goalkeeper produced an excellent save from close range moments later. Despite City’s growing pressure, Brentford managed to survive until halftime, with frustration building among the Etihad supporters.

Doku Produces Moment of Magic

The breakthrough finally arrived just after the hour mark. Doku collected the ball inside the penalty area, shifted onto his stronger foot, and curled a stunning strike into the far corner to give City the lead.

The goal completely changed the momentum of the game. Brentford struggled to recover as City increased its control and confidence in possession.

Haaland and Marmoush Seal the Win

After missing several earlier opportunities, Haaland eventually got on the scoresheet with 15 minutes remaining. The Norwegian striker reacted quickly inside the six-yard box to bundle the ball home after Antoine Semenyo’s dangerous cutback created confusion in Brentford’s defense.

City continued to push forward, and only a brilliant save from Kelleher denied Phil Foden from adding another goal moments later.

Substitute Omar Marmoush completed the victory late in the match after being played through by Haaland. The Egyptian forward calmly slotted the ball into the far corner to cap off a professional City performance.

Arsenal Feeling the Pressure

The win significantly increases the pressure on Arsenal, who travel to face relegation-threatened West Ham United in a crucial London derby. With City still holding a game in hand, the Premier League title race remains wide open heading into the final weeks of the season.

Pep Guardiola’s men appear determined to push Arsenal all the way once again, and with their home form remaining exceptional, City continue to look like serious contenders for another league crown.
