The Black Stars of Ghana have officially been nominated for the 2026 CAF Men’s National Team of the Year award, joining nine other African football powerhouses competing for one of the continent’s most prestigious honours.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the nominees on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, recognising outstanding performances across African football.

Despite Ghana’s recent struggles with consistency, the Black Stars have earned recognition following their improved performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the knockout stages for the first time since 2010.

The excitement does not end there!

Why Were the Black Stars Nominated for the 2026 CAF Awards?

Ghana’s nomination follows an improved showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The Black Stars began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama before producing a disciplined performance to secure a goalless draw against England.

Although Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat against Croatia in their final group-stage fixture, their four points were enough to secure qualification for the Round of 32.

Their World Cup journey eventually ended following a narrow 1-0 defeat against Colombia.

Nevertheless, reaching the knockout stages marked a significant improvement after disappointing group-stage eliminations at the 2014 and 2022 World Cups.
