The 40-year-old Belgian had completed his responsibilities with Bayern’s first team before attending a training session involving the club’s reserve side. He reportedly collapsed shortly after arriving to observe the session, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Bayern later confirmed that Kompany was undergoing comprehensive examinations and would remain under medical supervision. His coaching staff will assume responsibility for first-team training and matchday operations until further notice.

Bayern confirmed that Kompany required medical treatment after collapsing while observing the reserve team’s training session.

The club said he would undergo detailed examinations and remain under medical care. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl stressed that the coach’s wellbeing was the organisation’s immediate concern.

“The health of Vincent Kompany is our highest priority,” Eberl said, adding that the club would provide its head coach with the medical support and recovery time he requires.

Kompany Had Recently Been Unwell

The incident followed a difficult period in which Kompany had reportedly been dealing with a significant viral infection.

He missed training sessions and was unable to conduct Bayern’s press conference before their Champions League match against Arsenal. Assistant coach Aaron Danks stepped in and publicly emphasised the importance of giving Kompany sufficient time to rest.

Kompany nevertheless returned to the touchline for Bayern’s 2–2 draw with Arsenal. After the match, he acknowledged that he had continued working despite his illness and had not paid sufficient attention to the warning signs from his body.

BILD also reported that Kompany had needed to rest in the dressing room during Bayern’s earlier 6–1 victory over RB Leipzig. The viral infection was said to have caused pain and difficulty with movement, although Bayern have not officially identified it as the cause of Friday’s collapse.

Reports Claim Kompany Previously Visited Hospital

TZ München reported that Kompany had already spent a night in hospital earlier in the week and undergone medical tests that did not reveal a clear serious problem.

The German publication also reported that there had been concern within Bayern about Kompany’s heavy workload and limited sleep. Those details have not been included in Bayern’s official statements and should therefore be treated as media reporting rather than confirmed medical findings.

No responsible conclusion can currently be drawn about why Kompany collapsed. Only the medical professionals treating him and any further official Bayern statement can provide a confirmed diagnosis.

Who Will Take Charge of Bayern Munich?

Bayern have confirmed that Kompany’s coaching staff will manage training and matchday responsibilities for the time being.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks had already taken a more prominent role while Kompany was unwell. He led training and represented the club during media duties before the Arsenal match.

The club has expressed complete confidence in the existing coaching team and has made clear that Kompany will be allowed to recover without pressure to return prematurely.
