However, Getafe must still receive approval from La Liga under the competition’s financial-control regulations before registering the player and officially announcing his arrival.

Carvajal has been without a club since his Real Madrid contract expired on June 30, bringing an end to an extraordinary 23-year association with the Spanish giants.

Reports indicate that Bordalás personally contacted Carvajal and explained the important role he could play at the Coliseum. The opportunity to remain in Madrid, continue competing in La Liga and become a senior leader within Getafe’s squad reportedly appealed to the experienced defender.

Is Dani Carvajal’s Getafe Transfer Official?

Carvajal’s move has not yet been formally announced by Getafe.

The reported verbal agreement and completed medical suggest that negotiations are at an advanced stage, but La Liga’s financial approval remains the decisive final step. Until the registration process is completed, Carvajal cannot officially be presented as a Getafe player.

The situation also produced some confusion after Getafe president Ángel Torres appeared to confirm that Carvajal had completed his medical and agreed terms, before later describing his earlier remarks as a joke and denying that an announcement was imminent.

Other reports maintain that the agreement is in place and only awaiting approval. Therefore, the most accurate description is that Carvajal is close to joining Getafe, subject to La Liga registration and an official club announcement.

Why Getafe Want Dani Carvajal

Getafe’s interest intensified following injury problems in the right-back position.

Kiko Femenía suffered a tear in the biceps femoris area of his left hamstring, leaving Bordalás short of experienced defensive options. Getafe’s official medical update said the player’s progress would determine his return date.

Because Carvajal is a free agent, Getafe can sign him outside the regular transfer window. The club would not need to negotiate a transfer fee, but his salary must still fit within the financial limits approved by La Liga.

Carvajal would give Getafe:

Proven La Liga experience

Leadership in the dressing room

Defensive aggression and tactical discipline

Quality deliveries from the right wing

Experience in high-pressure European matches

Cover for the injured Femenía

A winning mentality developed at Real Madrid

Bordalás demands intensity, commitment and defensive organisation from his players. Those qualities have defined Carvajal throughout his career, making the veteran defender a natural stylistic fit for Getafe.

Dani Carvajal’s Legendary Real Madrid Career

Carvajal leaves Real Madrid as one of the most successful players in the club’s history.

Born in Leganés, only a short distance from Getafe, he joined Real Madrid’s academy in 2002. He spent 10 seasons progressing through the club’s youth system before moving to Bayer Leverkusen to gain senior experience.

Real Madrid exercised its buy-back option in 2013, and Carvajal quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back. He went on to spend 13 seasons with the senior team and eventually became captain.

His final Real Madrid record stood at 451 appearances and 14 goals. He also provided more than 60 assists while becoming a crucial part of one of the greatest eras in European club football.

Carvajal described the emotional significance of his departure by saying: “Real Madrid isn’t just the club of my life, it is my life.”

Carvajal’s 27 Real Madrid Trophies

Carvajal won an extraordinary 27 major titles during his Real Madrid career:

Six UEFA Champions League titles

Six FIFA Club World Cups

Five UEFA Super Cups

Four La Liga titles

Four Spanish Super Cups

Two Copa del Rey trophies

He is one of only five players in football history to have won six European Cups. Real Madrid described him as one of the club’s greatest legends and a symbol of its academy.

His trophy collection reflects more than longevity. Carvajal regularly delivered in Real Madrid’s biggest matches and was a major part of the team that won four Champions League titles in five seasons.

Champions League Final Hero Against Dortmund

One of the defining moments of Carvajal’s career came in the 2024 Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

With the match still goalless, Carvajal rose to meet a corner and headed Real Madrid into the lead. Vinícius Júnior later added the second goal as Madrid won 2-0 and lifted their 15th European Cup.

Carvajal was named the best player in the final, adding an unforgettable match-winning contribution to his already outstanding European record. He was also included in the FIFPro World XI and The Best FIFA Men’s World XI in 2024.

For a player best known for defensive determination, scoring the opening goal in a Champions League final represented the perfect reward for years of service.

Injury Problems Changed Carvajal’s Real Madrid Role

Carvajal suffered a serious knee injury during the 2024/25 campaign, damaging several structures in his right knee.

The injury required a lengthy rehabilitation period and affected his ability to reclaim a consistent starting position. Real Madrid’s acquisition of Trent Alexander-Arnold also increased competition at right-back.

Despite these difficulties, Carvajal recovered and returned to action before leaving the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of the 2025/26 season.

His final home appearance included a guard of honour, a standing ovation and an emotional tribute from teammates and supporters. A large banner inside the Bernabéu read: “The dream of a child, the triumph of a legend.”

Success with the Spanish National Team

Carvajal’s achievements extend beyond Real Madrid.

The right-back has represented Spain more than 50 times and played an important role in the national team’s return to international success. His honours with La Roja include the UEFA Nations League and Euro 2024.

Carvajal scored in Spain’s victory over Croatia in the Euro 2024 group stage and helped the team maintain its perfect record on the way to lifting the trophy.

His international experience would make him one of the most decorated and respected players in Getafe’s dressing room.

How Carvajal Could Fit into Bordalás’ Getafe

Carvajal can operate as a traditional right-back or as a wing-back when Getafe use a system with three central defenders.

His defensive positioning, aerial competitiveness and ability to challenge aggressively would suit Bordalás’ physical approach. In possession, Carvajal can overlap, deliver early crosses and combine with wide attackers.

Getafe should nevertheless manage his workload carefully. At 34 and following a serious knee injury, expecting him to play every match would carry considerable physical risk.

A rotational role could allow Carvajal to contribute without placing excessive demands on his body. His leadership could also benefit younger defenders, regardless of whether he starts every week.

What Must Happen Before Carvajal Can Play?

Getafe must complete several final steps:

Receive La Liga approval under the club’s financial limits.

Finalise and sign Carvajal’s contract.

Register the defender with La Liga.

Complete the club’s official announcement.

Assess his match fitness after several months without competitive football.

If all requirements are completed, Carvajal could begin training with Bordalás’ squad immediately. However, he may require time to rebuild full match sharpness before making his Getafe debut.

Carvajal to Getafe: An 8/10 Signing

If approved, Carvajal’s arrival would be an 8/10 signing for Getafe.

Signing a six-time Champions League winner without paying a transfer fee represents an exceptional opportunity. His experience, mentality and defensive quality could improve Getafe both on and off the pitch.

The concerns relate to his age, recent injury history and lack of recent competitive minutes. His salary must also fit within Getafe’s restricted financial structure.

However, if Carvajal remains fit and accepts a carefully managed role, this could become one of the smartest free-agent signings of the La Liga season.

Follow La Liga Transfer News with Bangbet

Keep up with the latest La Liga transfers, confirmed signings, match previews and betting markets on Bangbet.

Study current form, team news, injuries and confirmed line-ups before making your football selections.

Bet with Bangbet Ghana or Bangbet Nigeria. Bangbet More Than Win!

Bet responsibly.
