Kane Fires Bayern Munich to Domestic Double

Kane’s performances were central to Bayern Munich’s success during the 2025/26 campaign.

The England captain scored 36 times in 31 Bundesliga appearances as Bayern retained the German league title. His total earned him the Bundesliga top-scorer award for the third consecutive season and the European Golden Shoe for the second time.

Kane finished nine goals ahead of Erling Haaland in the race to become Europe’s leading league scorer. His 36-goal haul was also one of the highest totals recorded in Bundesliga history.

Beyond his goals, Kane played a vital role in Bayern’s attacking structure. His movement created space for teammates, while his passing and ability to drop into midfield made him far more than a traditional penalty-box striker.

DFB-Pokal Final Hat-Trick Completes the Double

One of Kane’s defining moments came in the DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart.

The striker scored all three goals as Bayern secured a commanding 3-0 victory and completed the Bundesliga and German Cup double. It was a fitting conclusion to a dominant domestic campaign in which Kane scored 10 goals in six cup appearances.

Bayern also lifted the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, with Kane scoring in a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart at the beginning of the season.

His final Bayern record stood at an outstanding 61 goals and seven assists from 51 appearances across all competitions.

Fourteen Champions League Goals

Kane was equally impressive in the UEFA Champions League, scoring 14 times in 13 matches as Bayern reached the semi-finals.

It was the most productive Champions League campaign of his career. His total left him only one goal behind Mbappé in the competition’s scoring chart and made him one of only a handful of players to score at least 14 goals in a single Champions League season.

Bayern’s European campaign ended with a narrow semi-final defeat to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain. However, Kane’s consistent performances across Germany and Europe strengthened his claim to the Ballon d’Or.

Kane Leads England to World Cup Third Place

Kane carried his remarkable club form into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring six goals as England reached the semi-finals and eventually finished third.

The Three Lions defeated Croatia, Panama, DR Congo, Mexico and Norway on their way to the last four. Their hopes of reaching the final ended with a 2-1 defeat to Argentina, but England recovered to beat France in a dramatic third-place play-off.

It was the country’s best World Cup finish since winning the tournament in 1966.

Kane’s six World Cup goals took his overall tournament total to 14, moving him four clear of Gary Lineker as England’s leading scorer in World Cup history. He also became the first England men’s player to score at five different major international tournaments.

Across the entire international campaign, Kane scored 12 goals in 14 appearances:

  • Six goals at the 2026 World Cup
  • Five goals during World Cup qualification
  • One goal in international friendlies

His goals, leadership and experience were instrumental in England recording their best global tournament result in 60 years.

First English Ballon d’Or Winner Since Michael Owen

Kane is only the fifth Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or.

The previous English winners were:

  • Stanley Matthews – 1956
  • Bobby Charlton – 1966
  • Kevin Keegan – 1978 and 1979
  • Michael Owen – 2001
  • Harry Kane – 2026

His victory ended England’s 25-year wait for a Ballon d’Or winner. It also made Kane the first Bundesliga player to claim the prize since Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Sammer in 1996.

For Bayern, Kane became the club’s first winner since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981, joining an illustrious list that includes Gerd Müller and Franz Beckenbauer.

Harry Kane Beats Mbappé and Yamal

Kane faced strong competition for the award, particularly from Mbappé and Yamal.

Mbappé delivered another prolific season for Real Madrid and France, while Yamal continued his rapid development into one of the world’s most influential attacking players. However, Kane’s combination of individual statistics, domestic trophies and international performances ultimately gave him the advantage.

He described the 2025/26 campaign as the best season of his career and said it was an honour to take the Ballon d’Or back to Munich.

The prize represents the crowning moment of Kane’s journey from Tottenham academy prospect to the world’s best footballer. His 73 goals, domestic double with Bayern and leadership during England’s World Cup run made his season impossible to ignore.
