Bayern and PSG Stars Face Lengthy Absences
Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have suffered major attacking setbacks following injuries to Luis Díaz and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Díaz is expected to miss several important fixtures with a left hamstring injury, while Kvaratskhelia faces a much longer recovery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The two injuries arrive during a demanding period of domestic and European football. Bayern must prepare for crucial Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League matches without Díaz, while PSG are set to lose Kvaratskhelia for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.
Luis Díaz Injury: Bayern Winger Facing Four to Six Weeks Out
Bayern Munich confirmed that Díaz suffered a minor muscle-fibre tear in the back of his left thigh during the club’s 2–2 Champions League draw with Arsenal. The Colombian winger entered the match as a substitute in the 68th minute but was forced off shortly before the final whistle after feeling discomfort.
The injury proved more serious than Bayern’s initial assessment. Head coach Vincent Kompany and sporting director Max Eberl had expressed hope that the problem was not significant, while Díaz reportedly told reporters after the game that it was nothing serious. Medical examinations later revealed the hamstring tear.
Bayern’s official statement did not provide a precise recovery period, saying the 29-year-old would be sidelined for the foreseeable future. However, reports from BILD and beIN Sports estimate that Díaz could be unavailable for four to six weeks, depending on how his recovery progresses.
Which Matches Could Luis Díaz Miss?

Díaz is expected to miss Bayern’s Bundesliga visit to Freiburg, the DFB-Pokal tie against Magdeburg and the high-profile league meeting with Borussia Dortmund. He is also likely to be unavailable for the Champions League trip to Atlético Madrid and the Bundesliga fixture against Mainz.
The Colombian international is set to miss his country’s November matches as well. A return against FC Köln after the international break may be possible, but that fixture remains uncertain and Bayern are unlikely to rush him back.
His absence is a significant blow because he had been finding excellent form. Díaz scored a hat-trick in Bayern’s 6–1 victory over RB Leipzig shortly before suffering the injury. Alphonso Davies could receive more minutes in an advanced role, while Kompany may also adjust his attacking combinations.
Kvaratskhelia ACL Injury Ends His 2026/27 Season
PSG have confirmed that Kvaratskhelia ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during their 4–2 Champions League victory over Barcelona. The Georgian winger will undergo surgery before beginning a long rehabilitation programme.
The injury is expected to rule Kvaratskhelia out for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign. Although PSG have not announced an exact return date, he is not expected to play again until 2027. His progress after surgery will determine when he can safely resume training and competitive football.
Kvaratskhelia had made nine combined appearances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League this season, producing one goal and one assist while creating 13 chances. His direct running, dribbling and ability to create opportunities in one-on-one situations have been central to PSG’s attacking approach.
How Will PSG Replace Kvaratskhelia?

The ACL injury creates a major selection problem for PSG. Désiré Doué, Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche are among the players who could receive increased responsibility on the left side of the attack.
PSG must also manage other injury concerns, with Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos expected to miss several weeks with muscular problems. The combination of absences will test the depth of the squad as the French champions compete in Ligue 1 and attempt to defend their European crown.
Major Setbacks for Bayern Munich and PSG
Díaz and Kvaratskhelia face very different recovery timelines, but both injuries could influence their clubs’ seasons. Bayern may have Díaz back before the end of 2026 if his rehabilitation proceeds smoothly. Kvaratskhelia, meanwhile, must focus on surgery and a careful long-term recovery.
Neither club can afford to take unnecessary risks. Hamstring injuries can recur when players return too quickly, while ACL rehabilitation requires patience at every stage. Bayern and PSG supporters will hope both wingers recover fully and return at their explosive best.
